YOUNG ADULT
RYAN: Ladies and gentlemen… Charlize Theron working it out in Young Adult.
CAROLINE: I liked the trailer for this one and I’m dying to see it! I missed the screening last week though, so break it down.
RYAN: I loved the trailer and I love the screenwriter Diablo Cody.
CAROLINE: She wrote Juno, Jennifer’s Body, etc…
RYAN: She’s absolutely brilliant and this might be may favorite of her films. This movie packs it all. It’s sad, funny, dramatic, uncomfortable… just the best blending of genres and moments I’ve seen in a long time.
CAROLINE: I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s directed by Jason Reitman who made one of our favorite films of ’09, Up in the Air. And how gorge is Charlize?
RYAN: She is just stunning and even though she’s not working it A-List style in this film, she is still a simple beauty.
CAROLINE: And what about Patrick Wilson? How’s their chemistry?
RYAN: It’s appropriate to the story. It’s incredibly awkward and you can almost feel it. I really like him, always, as an actor and he’s very capable but he hasn’t really had the right role yet that would make him, like, nomination worthy, you know? He needs a movie with a moment already. He has the chops.
CAROLINE: He’s been in some intense films but I know what you mean. He doesn’t really get the George Clooney roles.
RYAN: It’s not a perfect movie but it is pretty close to it, in the sense it’s the right length, well paced, acted, told. It unfolds in a way where you’re kind of watching a slow burn train wreck and you’re waiting to see what happens.
CAROLINE: You’re killing me! I can’t wait to see this.
RYAN: But I meant it when I said slow burn. It is a bit slow moving and quiet at times but I was in the mood for that so it was all good.
CAROLINE: I hear you.
RYAN: I liked this film a lot. I primarily attribute that to the script but then the performances are pretty awesome as well. It’s not a feel good movie but it has comedic moments and overall, it’s an entertainment. And that’s always my top priority.
