YOU KILL ME

CAROLINE: Sadly, “You Kill Me” just about killed me. I just couldn’t get into it.

RYAN: I was into it for the first few minutes, but I’ll go on the record as saying that Luke Wilson was vastly underused in a comedic gay role.

CAROLINE: Yes, it was fun to see him as a gay, though you don’t see him much in this movie. Téa Leoni is also in it, playing opposite Ben Kingsley who is, of course, a great actor. And I love Téa in general. But I just didn’t really care about any of the characters in this movie.

RYAN: I was confused by it because I’m not the kind of person who watches a film and compares it to reality – I don’t advocate that – but I couldn’t help it with this movie. I’m sorry, but the relationship between Téa Leoni and Ben Kingsley would never happen in real life.

CAROLINE: He plays a drunken hit man, and she’s some crazy, neurotic type. Obviously, they have a vast age difference, which she references in the movie to give you a reason why their relationship might be plausible. But there is nothing attractive about Ben Kingsley. I so don’t see why she’d be into him.

RYAN: It’s a short film, but it feels kind of long at times. I was actually quite bored.

CAROLINE: When I looked over and saw you approximating the fetal position, I figured you weren’t having a good time. I really tried to get into it at first, because I like all the actors in it. Bill Pullman makes a brief appearance too.

RYAN: Stop right there! I now understand why Bill Pullman hasn’t been in any big movies in a long time – he looks God-awful.

CAROLINE: He doesn’t look that bad.

RYAN: He’s puffy, he’s bloated and looks like he may have had a stroke or something.

CAROLINE: I thought he looked fine.

RYAN: No, he didn’t. He had a huge gut.

CAROLINE: You’re totally imagining things. He looked fine. But he has a throwaway part.

RYAN: Some of the shots are cool and framed interestingly in a way that’s reminiscent of “Reservoir Dogs.” And the music wasn’t completely unfortunate

CAROLINE: I actually don’t remember much about the music. There wouldn’t be any for several minutes at a stretch, and at one time I thought, “Is there any music in this movie?”

RYAN
: Ben Kingsley, despite being part of an American family in the movie, has his own accent going on. I don’t know where he was supposed to be from but it wasn’t working.

CAROLINE: Unfortunately, I was just never able to get invested in this movie. I tried for about twenty minutes, and then I just gave up. Bottom line?

RYAN: On the entertainment yardstick that we measure all films, I was not that entertained by this movie.

CAROLINE: I have to agree. I can’t say this is a must-see in the theater. It’s a small, semi-indie flick that probably won’t get a huge release anyway given that it’s coming out against films like “Evan Almighty” and “A Mighty Heart.” I don’t think many people are gonna see this one. And you won’t be missing much.
