Warm Bodies Review
RYAN: This is the new zombie apocalypse rom com which is basically Twilight with zombies.
KIM: It’s kind of a romantic dramedy, but it was comedic.
RYAN: It’s a little cheesy and corny but not as bad as I anticipated. It certainly has a lot of heart to it.
KIM: I was surprised by this. For a January release-zombie movie, it wasn’t half bad. It was cute.
RYAN: That is the best word to describe this movie. While there’s nothing cute and cuddly about a zombie per se, there is something tender about them here. It’s slow moving in parts and I was a little bored sometimes due to the lack of dialogue, but there’s also some action scenes.
KIM: It’s a little slow moving and quiet because they can’t speak. It’s basically from the zombie’s point of view which is an interesting take on it, especially since this comes at a time when The Walking Dead is out. This is less gory, dramatic and harsh. This is a cute, sweet, zombie love story.
RYAN: There is a Shakespearean note to the romance in this film. And John Malkovich is there. And he’s good to see in this, although still hard on the eyes.
KIM: He wasn’t my favorite part of the movie but he was fine. I have to admit I love Teresa Palmer.
RYAN: Ok. Will you just admit that she looks like the love child of Kristen Stewart and Naomi Watts?
KIM: [laughs’ Oh my god! You are so right about that!! I loved her in I am Number Four. She was number Six and she was the best part of that movie. I dig her and she’s great in this. She’s Australian but does a flawless Amer-accent.
RYAN: Yeah but she looks s’much like blonde Kristen Stewart with a tad more facial range.
KIM: She’s more attractive than Kristen Stewart and yes, she has much more facial expressions. She’s just adorable.
RYAN: And who is this zombie Nicholas Hoult? I know he’s the now-grown-up boy from About a Boy.
KIM: I don’t know what else he’s really done.
RYAN: He might be cuter as a zombie than as a real person. And his star is on the rise. He has another movie coming out next month too.
KIM: To have a zombie that has a heart is kinda cute.
RYAN: It’s a novel concept. I just didn’t like the pacing. It’s kind of slow for me. The action scenes seemed more about chasing than true action. The extent of the effects are really these killing skeleton zombies. I’m not on the zombie train.
KIM: I’m totally on the zombie train. I can’t wait for The Walking Dead to start up again. I didn’t check my watch at all. It is slow but I was into it.
RYAN: The soundtrack is great and adds to the story humorously at some points.
KIM: I would buy this soundtrack.
RYAN: And Teresa’s friend is played by Analeigh Tipton and she is scary skinny! Remember her from Crazy, Stupid, Love?
KIM: Oh that’s what she’s from!
— BOTTOM LINE —
KIM: I enjoyed it. It’s cute and sweet and make a cute Valentine’s Day movie. Not that you have to rush out to the theater to see it but I think it would be a very good rental.
RYAN: If you’re among the teen set, this is a good rom com for you; but yes, it’s more of a rental. I liked it better than most of the Twilight movies, so that’s something.
