TOY STORY 3

RYAN: I knew you weren’t about to see an animated movie and I love them so let me clue you in on Toy Story 3.

CAROLINE: Thank you. I’ve been hearing great things about it but it’s true, I’m simply not in the mood for another kids’ movie right now.

RYAN: Well I chose to see the 3D variation and it was a whopping $17.50! Granted we do not regularly pay for movies as film critics, but since I was unable to catch the critics’ screening, I had to see it like a regular American.

CAROLINE: Which you are…

RYAN: And I had to wait in line and everything. It wasn’t a bad crowd though. No major cell phones going off or people kicking the back of my seat or anything.

CAROLINE: Thank goodness for that. So how was the movie?

RYAN: Terrific. Really. It was about as good as any animated movie these days, you know, since the animation is brill. The 3D was fine but the kind that I really should have saved the extra bucks and just seen the 2D version, because I didn’t notice it as in Avatar.

CAROLINE: How was the story?

RYAN: It was great; but, all three of the Toy Story movies have the exact same plot – the toys try to get back to their owner Andy. And how many times can you retell the same story? Apparently three times since it got me again.

CAROLINE: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack all back…

RYAN: Yeah and some new voices, most notably Jodi Benson as the voice of Barbie.

CAROLINE: Why do I know that name?

RYAN: She’s the voice of The Little Mermaid!

CAROLINE: That’s right! Look at Disney… keeping it in the family.

RYAN: I would have thought Mattel might have put a bid in to cast the voice of the Barbie from all the Barbie DVD movies out there.

CAROLINE: You love those. But Jodi is Disney royalty.

RYAN: And she was brill, LBH, let’s be honest.

CAROLINE: Well I’m glad you enjoyed it.

RYAN: Darling, I have a confession to make.

CAROLINE: Honey, tell me.

RYAN: I cried during it.

CAROLINE: What!?!? Why? Was there an Up moment in it?

RYAN: Worse, I think. Seriously. I’m not talkin’ misty here… full on tears down m’cheeks.

CAROLINE: I’m glad you let it all out.

RYAN: This one part about three-quarters of the way through just slayed me.

CAROLINE: Now that I would have paid to have seen.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: After a decade’s wait, the third Toy Story was worth the wait. I really loved it and think kids, families and anyone who likes animation or just a great story will dig this film. It’s so well written and performed that you actually begin to care about the toys as if they’re real people. I full on bought into it and loved it.
