The Other Woman Review
RYAN: Cam’ron D is back at it with The Other Woman. And I’ve really been looking forward to a rom com but it turns out this is more of a straightforward comedy than a rom com. And it’s more good than bad.
CAROLINE: I have also been a little bit excited to see this movie, mostly because of the cast. I enjoy Cameron and Leslie Mann is so funny. Even though I knew it probably wasn’t going to be great, I figured it would at least provide some chuckles…. which it did, but not nearly enough.
RYAN: I actually LOL’d more than I usually do and I have to really give it to Leslie. Cam is obis the bigger star but this movie is a comedic showcase for the Mann. She rivals the chops of Melissa McCarthy in this. She’s such a scene stealer. I was, like, proud of or maybe just really happy to see her do this so well.
CAROLINE: This was directed by Nick Cassavetes of The Notebook fame. It should have been better. It had some silly, funny moments, mostly between Cameron D. and Leslie Mann, and I did chortle a few times. But mostly, it was kind of painful.
RYAN: The first half is pretty strong but then yes, it suffers, majorly, for being way too long. There are some painfully long montage moments over music and shots on the beach that could have been cut down or cut out altogether. What I found most annoying though, was the potty humor; not to sound like a prude but that’s so lowest common denominator for comedy, LBH.
CAROLINE: I went back and forth between thinking how well Cameron is aging and then thinking she’s gotten fillers and looks like the Joker.
RYAN: She looks much better than in other recent big screen adaptations. She just plays the straight man a lot in this, though she does have a few good, funny lines.
CAROLINE: There was definitely some real estate porn happening in this movie. Leslie’s gorgeous suburban home, Cam’s awesome apartment, the gorgeous Hamptons scenes, etc. That was fun.
RYAN: I really liked the guys in the movie – Don Johnson totally is believable as Cam’s dad, right? And then Nikolaj is easy on the eyes but I especially liked Taylor Kinney. He’s gorge.
CAROLINE: Totally. I could have just watched a whole movie of Cameron’s character with him. He’s so cute and, in real life BTW, is Lady Gaga’s boyfriend.
RYAN: Nicki Minaj – not a bad actress but all I could think when I saw her on screen was, “Ka’pow!!”
CAROLINE: (laughs) Baby got back! As for Kate Uptton, I think it became clear halfway through filming that she can’t act, so they gave her as few lines as possible. I was enjoying this movie up to a point – and then it got really weird. Like there was odd violence or huge pratfall-type stuff when you would least expect it. It wasn’t funny; just way too over the top for this genre.
RYAN: I agree it lost the course halfway through but I think it’s more because of the length. Still that schticky stuff was way too much at the end. A Jerry Maguire ending could have saved this movie but alas, no.
CAROLINE: And then the end turned into a scene from “The Walking Dead.” WTF was that???
RYAN: (laughs) Exactly. We can’t spoil why. There are no zombies but there may as well have been.
CAROLINE: By the end when they did the little epilogue of what happened to all the characters, I so didn’t care. None of these characters made enough of an impact for me to care what happens to them.
RYAN: There’s quite a bit of originality in this movie – it’s sort of a twist onThe First Wives Club. Lady–driven comedies are a hard sell in Hollywood and they’re so rare. It’s not a must see on the big screen but Leslie is gold and it wouldn’t be bad as a rental or on cable someday.

I think I’ll wait till it’s streaming. This sounds like a movie you put in your queque on Netflix and it sits there for months till there is absolutely nothing else to watch. This is a Bud lite and left overs night kinda aof movie
