The Legend of Hercules Review
RYAN: The Legend of Hercules is a love story! Who knew?! It’s actually very much a cross between Clash of the Titans and 300 – complete with major man-candy, helmets, capes, sword fighting…
CAROLINE: (laughs) Careful with the innuendo there!
RYAN: Ha. I really liked this movie more than I expected to, especially considering it’s a January release. It certainly has nothing on the award worthy movies currently in theaters; but it is entertaining, light and fun. Some of the fight scenes are awesome and the effects are great – I actually LOL’d with glee at some of the special effect moments.
CAROLINE: That’s cool. How’s Kellan Lutz?
RYAN: He’s fine. It’s more about how he looks for this role – it’s not the biggest acting job but it is quite physical. He does a good job acting with his body and the fight scenes are rad – they use this effect where things go in and out of slow motion for some points to emphasize the move and that’s exciting.
CAROLINE: I don’t think I’d really be into this movie though, you know.
RYAN: Actually I was thinking you would like it. There is a good feminine energy in the film. The women are gorgeous and Goddess-like. And the love story really serves a great portion of the film and I liked the balance between romance, battle and mythology. Some of the Greek Mythos was a little confusing and there were some lines that I just had to accept I didn’t understand – but it’s basically a superhero origin story, which, LBH – let’s be honest – is never a bad thing.
CAROLINE: That’s an interesting approach.
RYAN: The opening scene is fantastic and immediately hooks you and then the climax is outstanding – although some of the beats throughout feel a bit like it’s following the storyline of a video game. Not that I’m really complaining; more just noting since some of the better video games are actually fun to watch as a narrative.
CAROLINE: I wouldn’t know. But you’re such a geek!
RYAN: Please. All the cool kids play video games (laughs).
CAROLINE: How’s the 3D?
RYAN: It’s terrific. You notice it throughout and it enhances the experience.
CAROLINE: That’s cool – it seems like 3D has actually improved some over the last year. You’ve tended to recommend it more.
RYAN: It can still be hit or miss but at least in this one it works. This movie should appeal to more than just the average dude. There’s a lot of fighting but it’s not really gratuitous. There’s not really any blood because it’s PG-13. It’s a good option for something just fun and enjoyable; not deep or profound. And it’s works for guys and girls.

Seemed closer to the story of Sampson than Hercules and not as good as 300. IMHO
