THE JONESES
CAROLINE: The Joneses is a fun new movie out in limited release with Demi Moore and David Duchovny among others.
RYAN: I didn’t get to see this with you but the premise seems pretty cool. They play a fake family that’s placed in a gated community to sell products or something?
CAROLINE: Basically, yeah. They play and husband and wife with two gorgeous kids and their job is to make everyone in the neighborhood what what they have, and then buy it. It’s a commentary on consumerism and all that jazz.
RYAN: Well, Demi and David make a gorgeous couple.
CAROLINE: Yeah, and their kids are equally stunning. The story is pretty compelling and really makes you wonder what if this happened in real life. It’s not impossible. But clearly, it’s a little over-the-top and that’s the point.
RYAN: Anyone else famous in it?
CAROLINE: Not super famous, but a few actors you’d recognize – Lauren Hutton, Amber Heard, who’s kind of up-and-coming, as the daughter and Gary Cole, the jerk boss from Office Space.
CAROLINE: He has one of the most interesting and tragic roles in the movie. I love him. He’s fab on Entourage too.
RYAN: So how much did you like the movie?
CAROLINE: I totally enjoyed it though it’s not phenomenal or anything. I wouldn’t tell you to rush out and see it. But for a directorial debut, I thought it was well done and well cast. How many directors get to say their first feature starred Demi Moore?
RYAN: Seriously. She’s been doing roles in smaller films lately, and I’m digging it.
CAROLINE: Yeah, it’s sort of a new career path for her, and I think she’s pulling it off. Plus she still looks amazing. Can everyone in Hollywood please go to her plastic surgeon?
— BOTTOM LINE —
CAROLINE: It’s a small movie that’s only going to see limited release but if you’re into indie films, it’s a decent one. It definitely feels like a directorial debut – small in scale, a little pat – but it’s well acted and has an interesting point of view. It’s not a must see, but it’s a cool little movie.
