THE CAMPAIGN
RYAN: I was eagerly anticipating this film; rooting for it to be good but super worried it would suck.
CAROLINE: That’s sort of how it goes with Will Ferrell movies these days.
RYAN: But I’m happy to say it’s not half bad. It’s a relatively decent performance from Will. His dialect is priceless! He alternates between sounding like Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. I love it.
CAROLINE: Ha. That’s funny. The commercials looked funny too. But is all the best stuff shown in them?
RYAN: No. Those moments are there but there’s more to it, thankfully.
RYAN: Not much. I was more laughing on the inside during this movie. And I have to say I liked Zach Galifianakis more than Will.
CAROLINE: Why do you think?
RYAN: He’s funnier. He’s tries a little less hard. The comedy isn’t as forced with him. And his embodiment of the character is truly comical. I chortled the first time he walked across the screen. He’s also built better for comedy. Something about his appearance is funny. He gets a bit of a makeover during the film and you can see how his starting look lends itself to the funny to begin with.
CAROLINE: That’s cool. I like him too.
RYAN: I also have to mention how great it was to see Dylan McDermott in this.
CAROLINE: He’s gorgeous.
RYAN: He really is and I love his suits shirt/tie combos in the film. He looks so dapper and he’s wonderful. I’m more used to seeing him on TV – The Practice, American Horror Story, etc… but I’m hoping he’ll be in more films. He’s underrated.
CAROLINE: He’s ok. He’s no Jon Hamm.
RYAN: He holds his own.
CAROLINE: How are the women in it?
RYAN: I love the actress who played Will’s wife. I don’t recognize her from anything else but she was vicious and awesome.
CAROLINE: Katherine LaNasa – I think she’s from TV’s Two and a Half Men.
RYAN: She has some great moments. And Sarah Baker, the actress who plays Zach’s on screen wife was good too.
CAROLINE: How was the political humor and commentary?
RYAN: Good. It’s crazy how dirty campaigns can get and this film really pokes fun at that potential. Thematically there are some things that ring pretty true, especially about the financial contributors behind certain candidates. And the rest is all just humor.
CAROLINE: That’s cool. I don’t think I’m gonna run out to see it. But I’d def catch it at home sometime.
RYAN: Yeah it’s not a must see in the theater but I did enjoy it.
