THE APPARITION
RYAN: This new horror film stars Ashley Greene, Alice Cullen from the Twilight movies and Tom Felton, Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potters.
KIM: …and that’s about how exciting it is.
RYAN: I like the casting. They’re good actors but this is one of the biggest wastes of time.
KIM: I thoroughly agree. Ashley and Tom are great. And there’s also Sebastian Stan who was in the movie The Covenant.
RYAN: I love that movie! He’s really cute.
KIM: He’s adorable but they didn’t bring their best to this movie. I think the script was cheesy.
RYAN: The acting was okay. Ad yes it was the script that was just so poor that they didn’t have anything to work with. This material is lame.
KIM: It was almost laughable at times.
RYAN: The strangest thing about this movie is that it’s only an hour and fifteen minutes and it still managed to seem long, slow and boring.
KIM: There wasn’t a lot to see. It lingered on certain shots of doors and horizons.
RYAN: Because if they didn’t do that, the movie would have only been thirty minutes long.
KIM: [laughs’ Exactly! I think they added forty-five minutes just on the lingering. It didn’t really hold your attention. It’s not scary. Nothing made us scream or jump.
RYAN: No terrifying images and the story was so unrealistic and absurd that it didn’t work. For a supernatural haunting story to work, it has to at least be suspenseful and creepy; draw you into the story and make you feel threatened. This movie didn’t at all.
KIM: I feel like there almost wasn’t a story.
RYAN: It was about a seance gone wrong.
KIM: Yeah and whatever they conjured, it didn’t make sense. We’re left with too many questions.
RYAN: It’s a total cop out on behalf of the filmmakers – like seeing an alien movie where they never show you the aliens. There’s no reveal in this film. It’s majorly disappointing.
KIM: The concept wasn’t fleshed out enough.
RYAN: I did like seeing Tom with dark hair and glasses. That was funky. And Ashley’s a hot little number.
KIM: I was trying not to drool over her.
RYAN: Some of the art direction was cool but what was supposed to be frightening imagery actually looked more artistic, like Salvador Dali paintings.
— BOTTOM LINE —
KIM: This was not scary. It was silly and not worth the time or money to see. I wouldn’t even recommend this as a dollar rental from Redbox.
RYAN: Aside from the actors and some cool art direction, there’s nothing to see here. All I ask of a scary movie is to do just that… scare me. Even if it’s just manipulative with music and editing to build suspense. This movie fails.
