THE AIR I BREATHE
RYAN: “The Air I Breathe” is thick, intense and very dramatic.
CAROLINE: This is a new movie by first-time director, Jieho Lee, and it features a veritable plethora of Hollywood B-listers: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Andy Garcia, Julie Delpy, Emile Hirsch, Brendan Fraser who has never looked hotter…
RYAN: Oh my Beyonce! He’s in superb shape!
CAROLINE: He’s astoundingly hot in this movie. Forest Whitaker is also in it, but he’s technically A-list what with his recent Oscar win and all.
RYAN: Sarah Michelle Gellar was very poorly cast, I have to say. I loved her scenes with Brendan, but she’s way too old to play a rising pop star. They should have cast a Miley Cyrus type. Plus Sarah Michelle can’t sing or dance a’tall so in the brief moments that you see her doing that, it doesn’t work.
CAROLINE: The movie is comprised of four stories based on an ancient Chinese proverb, and they all interweave in an interesting way.
RYAN: It’s not that original of an idea given that lots of films have interwoven plots and cool flash-forwards and flashbacks, but I always enjoy seeing it, especially when a film does it successfully.
CAROLINE: Getting back to Brendan Fraser, I might have to add him to my Hollywood’s Hottest Men list. He’s so tall and strapping! And I don’t waste my money on those “Mummy” movies, so I haven’t seen him in a while. It’s been way too long. Maybe I’ll have to see the new “Mummy” movie, which comes out later this year. He’s that hot.
RYAN: Now that he’s done 7 or 10 of those films, it’s nice to see him doing something else.
CAROLINE: LBH, “The Air I Breathe” is a small, artsy movie, which probably won’t see a huge release, but it’s kind of a cool film.
RYAN: It’s definitely enjoyable. It’s dramatic, but also upsetting and unsettling.
CAROLINE: Oh yeah, it’s disturbing for sure.
RYAN: But I definitely got caught up in it and forgot my life for a while.
CAROLINE: And just when you start to forget that all the stories weave together, something from one of the other plots is revisited and you’re like, “Whoa!” And it all ties together in the end, which is very cool. Bottom line?
RYAN: It’s very well performed and somewhat well cast. And it’s enjoyable but intense. It’s not for everybody, especially people who only like happy movies.
CAROLINE: It’s also a little bit violent. I’m sure some of the stuff that goes on in the movie is very true-to-life, especially the thing about gangsters controlling pop stars, which apparently happens all the time in Korea. But it’s not at all true to my life, so I found it pretty disturbing. It definitely makes you glad that you don’t have such problems.
RYAN: For shizz. It’s a decent flick, but you don’t have to see it in the theater. Wait for the DVD, unless you want to see Brendan Fraser in all his big screen glory.
CAROLINE: It’s definitely worth 12 bucks for that!
