The 85th Academy Awards – Live Review
CAROLINE: All set! The show promises to be filled with tributes to movie musicals and we couldn’t be happier about that!
RYAN: It could be the best Academy Awards ever!
8pm
RYAN: We’re 30 mins away from the show and the red carpet has been epic! The zombie apocalypse has clearly influenced fashion! So much gray. Many actresses look undead! I love Amy Adams but huh?!?
CAROLINE: I think she looks gorge.
RYAN: Sally Field is in color but looks like a prairie girl gone wrong. On the other hand, I love Nicky Kidman! She’s rocking the gold meets black metallic fierceness.
8:40
CAROLINE: [laughs’ The first musical number was high-larious! I’m cracking up!
RYAN: And William Shatner is brillz.
CAROLINE: This is a high energy show already. Let’s hope is sustains.
RYAN: Now THAT is Dancing with the Stars! Charlize Theron, who knew!! Amazing.
8:45
CAROLINE: This is really fun!
RYAN: Dan Radcliffe, yes!!
CAROLINE: We are standing up, applauding here! This is fantastic but it went on way too long! Now onto the awards!
8:50
RYAN: Supporting Actor goes to Christoph Waltz. He owes everything to Quentin Tarantino.
CAROLINE: This is unexpected! Not an upset but surprising nonetheless.
RYAN: Two Oscars, both for Quentin roles. Pretty cool.
8:57
CAROLINE: Oh no, Paul Rudd and Melissa McCarthy are a little awkward. How is this possible?
RYAN: Totally random. Meanwhile could this guy who just won for Animated Short be any less enthusiastic about winning an Oscar? Hello!
CAROLINE: Wow! Brave just took it for Animated Feature.
RYAN: Wreck it Ralph had all the momentum but I actually liked Brave better. I’m thrilled for this win!
9pm
CAROLINE: You know I’m not a fan of Anne Hathaway but I like seeing her next to Hugh. They look cute together.
9:06
RYAN: The Avengers cast presenting together is clever. Life of Pi is having it’s moment. Winning for cinematography and visual effects.
CAROLINE: That movie was amazing.
RYAN: It really was an achievement in film making.
CAROLINE: Whoa! That exit Jaws music is terrible! How rude.
RYAN: I know. I’d rather see the acceptance speeches. It’s their moment, really.
9:18
CAROLINE: Costume Design award to Anna Karenina.
RYAN: I was really rooting for Mirror Mirror but Anna is deserving too. It was very unique.
CAROLINE: And for Makeup – Les Miz! How cool.
RYAN: That’s great. I still can’t believe Lincoln wasn’t nominated here but of course I love this win.
9:26
CAROLINE: The whole James Bond tribute was kind of lame until Shirley Bassey came out.
RYAN: Right?! This is classic Hollywood.
9:44
CAROLINE: This was a really competitive year for the Best Documentary category. Each of the nominated films was critically acclaimed. And it goes to Searching for Sugarman.
9:51
RYAN: Here’s the thing about the Foreign Film winner – Amour – when it’s also up for the proper Best Picture, how do the other nominees stand a chance in the Foreign category?
CAROLINE: Yeah that’s a bit circumspect.
9:57
RYAN: Ok this might be one of the best moments in Oscars history – but clearly CZ Jones is lipsyncing.
CAROLINE: Now that’s why it’s called a showstopper.
RYAN: I actually misted over watching that. I loved the movie and that was a spectacular display! So cool to see them all together live.
CAROLINE: They sang live in the film and now here. It’s another great moment for musicals in the movies.
10:16
RYAN: A tie for Sound Editing. That’s so rare but how cool.
CAROLINE: Yeah that hardly every happens
RYAN: And tonight’s live stroke goes to Christopher Plummer.
CAROLINE: [laughs’ It happens at every awards show LBH. I don’t think so though. He has it together.
RYAN: Um, his nose is purple.
10:23
RYAN: Supporting Acress Anne Hathaway. Done and done.
CAROLINE: She just annoys me beyond belief.
RYAN: Say what you will. She deserves it and I loved her speech. For all the backlash about her coming across as insincere, she was lovely.
10:40
CAROLINE: God Adele just makes it look so easy.
RYAN: That was a flawless performance. And she’s gonna win tonight.
10:48
RYAN: I love Dan Radcliffe because of Harry Potter but also because he’s just so normal seeming. He was always so cool whenever I interviewed him and he seems so great even presenting, but especially next to Kristen Stewart who looks like a nutbag. Shy didn’t she just come out with her crutches?
CAROLINE: I know. That would have been better than this limping tragedy.
11:02
RYAN: I couldn’t love Babs more but what’s with the choker?!
CAROLINE: That’s the worst I’ve ever heard her. She’s showing her age in her voice, and her BPS, LBH.
RYAN: [laughs’ It’s true. But it was a nice tribute.
11:15
CAROLINE: Hey Norah Jones, Welcome to the 60s!
RYAN: Best song goes to Adele. She had a good awards season. And I love her and how touched she is winning this award!
CAROLINE: Her hair is so fabulous!
RYAN: Yeah her hairstylist should win an Oscar.
11:25
CAROLINE: Adapted Screenplay winner – Argo.
RYAN: The awards are really sprinkled around tonight… all the big movies winning one or two and it’s kind of fun that way. It’s not a sweep for anything as yet.
CAROLINE: And as for original screenplay, the winner is Quentin Tarantino!
RYAN: That’s awesome. He’s such a brilliant filmmaker and I love that he won tonight.
11:35
CAROLINE: Wow Ang Lee!
RYAN: Best acceptance speech moment, “Thank you movie God!” So cute! And now it’s most likely Life of Pi will win Best Pic! Whoa.
11:40
CAROLINE: Ok here were go. Best Actress – Jennifer Lawrence!
RYAN: This was so up in the air tonight!! And this is who I was rooting for. I’m so thrilled!
CAROLINE: OMG she fell! Poor thing.
RYAN: Well there is the moment of the night!
CAROLINE: Amazing.
RYAN: I wish she had cried tho during her speech. I love it when the actresses do.
CAROLINE: I like it when they don’t. She was cute.
11:46
RYAN: Meryl looks so dumpy again.
CAROLINE: She usually does. And here’s Actor – Daniel Day-Lewis.
RYAN: First ever three-time Oscar winner in this category! I love that he’s getting it from Meryl but how rude she didn’t wait to open the envelope.
CAROLINE: He has lipstick all over his face!!
11:52
RYAN: Jack Nicholson. I love it! I love the red tie! I’ve been wondering about him.
CAROLINE: OMG Hello Michelle Obama!
RYAN: This is ginormous!
CAROLINE: And the Oscar for Best Picture goes to… Argo!
RYAN: This became an even more competitive race as the night went on! This is just so justified for Argo. B’Affleck got his gold and it’s so rare that the same film doesn’t win for picture and director. But it’s a great moment.
CAROLINE: And George Clooney wins too!
RYAN: Ben is so fantastic. That was so emotional and poignant. I’m so happy for him.
Midnight
CAROLINE: And there you go with your Kristin Chenoweth.
RYAN: I was hoping she would sing Over the Rainbow but this was more fun. What a terrific show. I’m sad it’s over.
CAROLINE: Please it was so long. But until next year… Goodnight!
