TELL NO ONE

RYAN: So you went to this cool movie we’ve been reading so much about, “Tell No One.” How was it?

CAROLINE: Well, I was inspired to see it after this glowing review I read, even though I hadn’t even heard of the movie. It’s in French with sous-titres.

RYAN: [laughs’ That would be subtitles to you. Tres bien. Is it intéressant?

CAROLINE: It is! It’s a thriller/drama/romance with a lot of twists and turns; but that doesn’t even begin to describe it. It’s not as complex as “Memento,” but it’s definitely one of those movies where you have to talk to your friend for 20 minutes afterward trying to figure out what happened. It’s fun, but also you’re like, “OK, did it really have to be that confusing?”

RYAN: Was it entertaining?

CAROLINE: For sure. I’d say I liked it, didn’t love it. The lead guy looks remarkably like a younger Dustin Hoffman. And Kristin Scott Thomas is in it speaking flawless French!

RYAN: That’s so cool. I really like her.

CAROLINE: It was so unexpected. I didn’t know she was bilingual. Speaking of which, she plays a lesbian.

RYAN: How exciting! So is it a movie for all ages or is it pretty adult?

CAROLINE: Very adult. There’s murder, deceit, treachery, lies and all the rest of it. And it’s very, very confusing. It’s funny, ‘cuz I had read how twisty and tricky it was, but for the first hour I wanted to pat myself on the back because I was following the story really well and as you know, that’s not always the case with me. But the real twists and turns don’t come till the second hour and I was like, “Oh my Lord. What’s going on?”

RYAN: How is it in length? Because sometimes after reading sub-titles for a while, I’m over it.

CAROLINE: It’s a full two hours but that didn’t bother me. You get pretty caught up in the story. And there’s a nice love story element, so it goes without saying that I shed several tears. I think the acting was very good, though it’s always hard to judge when they’re not speaking English.

RYAN: What’s your bottom line?

CAROLINE: It’s a cool movie but it’s only playing in a couple theaters in NYC, so I can’t imagine it’s getting a very big release. In fact, I had to go to three different screenings of this movie before I got into one. The theater was mobbed with people.

RYAN: Well, it sounds very, as the French would say, populaire.

CAROLINE: It’s definitely getting a lot of buzz. You have to be able to tolerate sub-titles though. I would definitely recommend this movie to the Francophiles of the world. And people who like foreign films.

Thanks For Viewing The TELL NO ONE
