TAKERS

RYAN: This is the new Matt Dillon cop drama with a cast of dudes and the girl from Avatar.

CAROLINE: Her name is Zoe Saldana and I can’t believe she’s not even listed in the commercial or on the poster.

RYAN: I know. But she has only, like, three lines so whatev. This movie is one part cop drama with Matt Dillon and Jay Hernandez and then one part bank heist with Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen and Chris Brown pre-Rihanna drama.

CAROLINE: So much for his budding acting career.

RYAN: There are some major problems with this film. The editing is horrendous. Some moments are hard to watch or even follow. Other minor shots were just left out altogether, ultimately leaving a story that makes no sense. I mean, I get what was going on but I had to work a lot harder than I should have. It’s no Inception after all.

CAROLINE: Honey – I don’t think anyone’s comparing this film to Inception.

RYAN: I just mean the editing hurt the story in this movie.

CAROLINE: How are the performances?

RYAN: They’re okay. Nothing stands out. Maybe Jay Hernandez. He got emotional once.

CAROLINE: You mean he cried?

RYAN: [laughs’ Yes.

CAROLINE: I like him.

RYAN: There were one or two engaging scenes where the action is pretty good but the rest of the movie is boring. I kept checking my watch.

CAROLINE: That’s never a good sign. How long is it?

RYAN: About an hour and 50 minutes.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: I actually thought to myself during this movie, “I wish I was just watching The Bank Job again.” This is no winner. It’s fine but not really an event for the theater. I think my favorite thing about this movie is the fashion. These robbers are dapper!
