SOMETHING NEW
CAROLINE: I loved this movie.
RYAN: (laughs) Wait. We are now at the newly AMC acquired (formerly Loews) E-Walk theater on 42nd Street in NYC. And we just saw “Something New.”
CAROLINE: On opening night.
RYAN: With a very festive audience; which would normally annoy us… so much involved.
CAROLINE: There were cheers and jeers.
RYAN: But in a good way. It was a very interactive, community experience.
CAROLINE: Yes. I LOVED it!!
RYAN: Totally. For those of us who are disappointed that “Sex and the City: The Movie” never materialized after the TV series was cancelled… Here it is… the black version.

CAROLINE: Right. And lit’rally, I couldn’t have enjoyed it any more. Granted, I am THE target audience; but, there was never a dull moment.
RYAN: So true. As a matter of fact, I remember thinking during the movie, “I wish this was a TV series,” cuz I love the premise and the characters so much.
CAROLINE: Yes. It could have been “Jules & Mimi” – the show that Miranda watched on “Sex and the City.”
RYAN: Exactly. I loved every plot point in this film.

CAROLINE: First of all, there were so many good actors in this. Blair Underwood, for example.
RYAN: Is so good.
CAROLINE: Donald Faison.
RYAN: Who has an amazing entrance.
CAROLINE: Yes. Hilarious. And love Sanaa Lathan. I mean… it’s just sooo good.
RYAN: And Alfre Woodard was…

CAROLINE: So much better than she is on “Desperate Housewives.”
RYAN: She’s great! And she’s got something to do here.
CAROLINE: Yes. I mean, it is, like, the perfect romantic comedy. Total chick flick; granted, but I am a chick and I frickin’ loved this movie.
RYAN: And funny to the point… enough of a comedy that, I think, guys who aren’t into chick flicks will still enjoy the comedy and find this really funny.
CAROLINE: Yes. I think so too. And there’s a positive racial message as well.
RYAN: Totally. That’s the thing: there’s a real moral to the story. And that’s my favorite kind of entertainment… when you’re so entertained, you’re unconscious you’re also being educated, uplifted and inspired. Love that.
CAROLINE: Absolutely. And the lead guy is ca-yoooot!
RYAN: Super hot. Australian Simon Baker.
CAROLINE: Yeah. I have nothing bad to say about this.

RYAN: Now one thing I found distracting was Sanaa’s facial scar.
CAROLINE: I wondered about that even in “Love and Basketball.”
RYAN: Yeah. I’m wondering how she got it.
CAROLINE: It’s her Tina Fey.
RYAN: It certainly is. And Donald Faison’s lookin a lil’ tubby.
CAROLINE: He’s a little portly. But that’s ok, I love him on “Scrubs.”
RYAN: And anything else?
CAROLINE: It’s hard to find fault with this one… I don’t think two guys are going to go see this together. But if you and your girls need something to do – this is the movie.
RYAN: Hey. Two guys on my side of the fence would enjoy this as much, Yael. And I think this movie… at different points reminded me of “Sex and the City.” A Samantha character… There are totally “Ally McBeal” moments. Just lots of personality, music, physical comedy, relationships, careers. And this movie makes one want to be in a relationship.

CAROLINE: Totally. The sex scenes are so hot and romantical. When he’s tracing her face with his finger, I was, like, dying. Ok… Final thought. It’s good stuff. The chemistry was whoo! Right on. And it’s perfect length. 90 minutes. Romantic comedy. You’re done.
RYAN: Thumbs up. Everything good. A plus. This is the movie to see this week.
CAROLINE: And just in time for Valentine’s Day.
RYAN: Something New? Something good!
