SHOOTER
RYAN: At last! A decent movie in 2007!
CAROLINE: It’s such a pleasure to finally sit down in a theater and enjoy a film for a change.
RYAN: And enjoy it we did, though it’s not a perfect movie.
CAROLINE: It’s about fifteen minutes too long and it’s rather bloody with lots of guns. But I really liked it.
RYAN: Me too. Once again, Mark Wahlberg turns in a pleasant performance.
CAROLINE: Pleasant?
RYAN: Yes. He’s not a great actor, but he’s a good actor.
CAROLINE: He’s definitely good. He had the look of a backwoods marksman down with the facial scruff and long ponytail. Then he becomes the clean, boyish, well-shorn Marky Mark who we know and love.
RYAN: He’s got a fab-tastic body but a fugly face.
CAROLINE: Gasp! I totally disagree. I think he’s handsome, albeit short.
RYAN: No. His face is angered and careworn.
CAROLINE: See, I love that about him. It’s hard livin’. He’s from the wrong side of the tracks.
RYAN: Fine, you can have him. Also, at the beginning of the film, you noted that it’s nice to see Danny Glover getting some work.
CAROLINE: Yeah, where’s he been lately?
RYAN: I want to know what’s been up with him for the last few years because he seems to have developed a speech impediment.
CAROLINE: You think so?
RYAN: Didn’t you notice?
CAROLINE: He’s always talked that way.
RYAN: Oh.
CAROLINE: Clearly you haven’t brushed up on your Danny Glover.
RYAN: Maybe in his old age, the speech impediment is getting more pronounced.
CAROLINE: Regardless, this movie is non-stop action and very exciting. It’s quite violent but really tense and edge-of-your-seat fun.
RYAN: I always like that in a film. And I really liked the girl in this movie, Kate Mara. I saw her in…what was the name of that basketball film? “We Are Marshall”?
CAROLINE: That was football movie, honey.
RYAN: Whatever. This was a really cool role for her, playing the tough chick.
CAROLINE: She doesn’t have tons to do, but I liked her. And Marky Mark’s little sidekick guy is good too, Michael Peña. I’ve definitely seen him in other things but I forget what.
RYAN: What’s your bottom line?
CAROLINE: This is a good flick, especially because there’s not a lot out there in the theaters right now. If you can handle the gore, you’ll enjoy “Shooter.”
RYAN: Agreed. This is a refreshing movie at the right time of year.
