SCOOP

CAROLINE: Woody is back!

RYAN: And I like it like that!

CAROLINE: “Scoop” is everything we wanted “Match Point” to be but wasn’t.

RYAN: This is the best Woody Allen movie in years.

CAROLINE: It’s hilarious a la “Manhattan Murder Mystery,” and the only slight bummer about it, which isn’t even that big of a bummer, is that Scarlett is a little stiff. But the movie is laugh-out-loud funny.

RYAN: Totally. I mean, Scarlett did underplay a little bit, which I didn’t mind because she’s great and cute and had some outstanding moments.

CAROLINE: I would have loved to see Rachel McAdams in this role ‘cos I love her. I didn’t quite buy Scarlett as the intrepid college reporter.

RYAN: Yes, Rachel’s our fave. But Scarlett has a great rack. But her wardrobe was awful. She looked pregnant half the time. And she has a great bod.

CAROLINE: Scarlett’s bod is fantastic, as seen in a red bathing suit in one scene. And it was only in one scene where I agreed it looked like she was wearing maternity clothing. But the real scene stealer in this film, in terms of beauty, is one breathtaking specimen of mandom, Hugh Jackman.

RYAN: Hugh puts the H in hot.

CAROLINE: He puts the H-O-T in hot, all caps. I was insanely jealous of Scarlett every time she made out with him.

RYAN: And it’s a great role for him. He’s truly good.

CAROLINE: And let’s not forget the Woodster himself, who was so funny that I was snorting throughout the film.

RYAN: Yes, you snorted – I counted – four times. I was like, I’m gonna have muzzle you in a minute. But it is funny
and so cleverly written, and I’m wondering if some parts were improvised. And Woody – this is my favorite performance of his since “Anything Else.”

CAROLINE: He’s brilliant and hilarious and he has his whole shtick down. He plays an illusionist/magician guy –

RYAN: Splendini.

CAROLINE: And he’s so freakin’ funny. Part of me thinks he’s not even acting sometimes – he really is just that stammering, doddering old man whose mind is so scattered that he can’t keep track of anything.

RYAN: He’s just it. The movie’s well-directed. I wonder if there are going to be more Woody Allen
movies with Scarlett as his muse, set in London.

CAROLINE: Right from the opening scene l knew this was going to be a really clever movie and it so didn’t disappoint. And I hope people realize how funny this movie is because we hated “Match Point;” but, everyone else seemed to love it. So I hope it’s not the reverse with this one, that we love it and everyone else hates it.

RYAN: Well, that’ll be interesting to see. Final thought?

CAROLINE: No man is hotter is Hugh Jackman. And Woody is fantastic.

RYAN: I like to measure a film by its entertainment value and this
film has a lot of it. …And everything Caroline said.
