Parental Guidance Review
RYAN: Old school Hollywood is making a comeback with Billy Crystal and Bette Midler in Parental Guidance.
CAROLINE: Welcome back to the big screen, you two. How was it?
RYAN: Nice. It was good. They’re great, you know?
CAROLINE: I love Billy. He’s the star of my favorite movie When Harry Met Sally.
RYAN: This is a different kind of rom-com. It’s more of a fam-com, a family comedy.
CAROLINE: Yeah I got that.
RYAN: There’s some peripheral romance between Marisa Tomei and Tom Everett Scott but the movie is really about parental and grand-parental relationships.
CAROLINE: How are Billy and Bette?
RYAN: Terrific. I love them both and they each have moments to shine, not to mention a little acapella musical number.
CAROLINE: Ha. I love it.
RYAN: I love them and you realize how much you miss seeing them in new material when they throw a little bone here and there, you know?
CAROLINE: Totally. There just isn’t that much opportunity in Hollywood when they hit a certain age.
RYAN: Well I’m glad for this one. I even got a lil choked up at the end.
CAROLINE: Stop. Did you cry?
RYAN: Yes. All right. I cried in this movie. [laughs’]
CAROLINE: That’s so unlike you but I admit it makes me wanna see this now. I cry much more easily than you.
RYAN: I don’t even have children or grandchildren and this movie got to me. It’s a predictable but sweet, cute, fun and dear movie. I can’t say you have to run out to see it since it’s amidst Oscar season but it’s definitely a good rental option.
