Oscar Nominations Announced!

RYAN: OMG! OMG! The most special of special days is finally here!!

CAROLINE: The Oscar nominations have been announced and I can hardly breathe!

RYAN: In through your nose and out through your mouth, darling.

CAROLINE: As usual, the nominations are packed with surprises. Some real shockers this year – like “Gran Torino” getting shut out completely. I thought Clint Eastwood would get at least one nomination in Best Actor, Best Director or Best Song.

RYAN: I was shocked by how shut out “Revolutionary Road” was! No Best Actor or Actress for Leo and Kate. But cool that the supporting guy, Michael Shannon, got nominated.

CAROLINE: He was the best thing about that movie. I’m most excited about Kate Winslet getting the Best Actress nod for “The Reader.” It’s one of the best films of the year, and I’m so thrilled that she got nominated in the proper category. Plus it got Best Picture and Director. I feel vindicated.

RYAN: I’m so psyched about “Milk.” It’s such an important movie, and Sean Penn totally deserves to win.

CAROLINE: “Milk” was incredible. Another one of my favorites last year.

RYAN: And I’m thrilled two of my favorite actresses, Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams, are both up for awards. They’re both so good and deserving.

CAROLINE: Not surprisingly, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and “Slumdog Millionaire” got tons of nominations; 13 and 10, respectively. “Slumdog” is pretty much a lock for Best Picture, which annoys me. It’s a very sweet, charming movie, but it’s not the best film of the year.

RYAN: It’s so rare anyone’s nominated for a comedy, but leave it to the brilliant Robert Downey Jr. He’s fabulous in everything and totally deserves the nom for “Tropic Thunder.”

CAROLINE: Some surprises include Melissa Leo’s Best Actress nom, no noms in the major categories for “The Dark Knight” other than Heath Ledger’s nomination, which is a lock, and Richard Jenkins getting the Best Actor nod. He had buzz early in the year when “The Visitor” came out, but I thought everyone had forgotten him by now.

RYAN: I feel like we can tell you right now a few winners. Though the categories are all packed with such deserving talent, it’s pretty safe to predict Heath will win Best Supporting Actor, “Slumdog” will get Best Picture and Kate will win for “The Reader.” But I love surprises on Oscar night so let’s hope I’m wrong.

CAROLINE:
Here’s the list of nominations for the major categories. The big night is Sunday, February 22nd. You know we’ll be watching!
