Non-Stop Review

nonstop-posterRYAN: I just flew back from LA the morning of this screening, having not slept much, working constantly and I wasn’t really in the mood to see a movie, but I liked this movie inspire of myself! It’s a thrill ride.  I loved the performances and it’s as good as any exciting, suspenseful movie on an airplane.

CHUCK: It’s the classic set up of putting strangers into a confined space they can’t get out of and chaos breaks out.

RYAN: It’s a murder mystery.

CHUCK: It is and it keeps you guessing at every turn and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

RYAN: Since I just flew this morning, it was even more disturbing. And you know, sometimes you do size people up and down on a plane, wondering if you could take ’em down if need be.

CHUCK: Absolutely, we all do that walking through the airport, checking everything out. And once you sit down on the plane, you do think of those things.

RYAN: This is so the type of role you wanna see Liam Neeson in. Ultimately, there are some great money shots that build him as such a hero. You almost wanna clap at those shots in those moments.  And I love how the the script makes you second guess things and the suspense slowly builds.

CHUCK: He is the hero but he’s not over the top.  There’s a bit of everyman to him.  He’s not screaming catch phrases.  He’s a great actor.  And I like Julianne Moore too.  She definitely elevated it above where it already worked.  She adds some realness to it because she’s so natural.

RYAN: They have great chemistry as co-passengers.  And of course I was super excited to see Lupita Nyong’o in this however, you just want more of her because she only has, like, three lines.  But she wasn’t an Oscar nominee or star when she made this.

CHUCK: She had some screen time.  She’s gorgeous and is rocking the Grace Jones haircut; looking fierce.

RYAN: And then Michelle Dockery from TV’s Downton Abbey was good too.

CHUCK: She was awesome.  She gives a good, nuanced performance.

RYAN: For all that I’m overtired whilst watching this movie, I didn’t zone out once.  And it’s intense; not heart pounding, but still.

CHUCK: It’s builds like a Hitchcock movie.  There are not major ups and downs.

RYAN: It’s clever ho it unravels and reveals.  It’s confusing but you end up seeing the puzzle all come together and is satisfying.

CHUCK: It’s a great time.

RYAN: It’s actors in the kind of roles you wanna see them in.  And compared to Flightplan or Red Eye, this is as exciting.  Add this one to the pile of crazy, fun movies up in the air.  I love the whodunnit sense to this and I kept changing my mind to who it might be and that’s a success for this genre.

CHUCK: There are some good elements of surprise and the supporting cast is all well cast.

RYAN: No regrets here – it’s an entertaining movie that’s fun to watch, yet you’d never want to experience on a real plane ride.
