New on DVD

CAROLINE: There are a ton of good movies new on DVD today, so let’s dive right in and start with the very funny Paul Rudd/Seann William Scott comedy, “Role Models.”

RYAN: It also stars McLovin from “Superbad” and two of our favorite actresses, Jane Lynch and Elizabeth Banks.

CAROLINE: There’s a special unrated DVD which is sure to be hilarious, though I tend to enjoy the theatrical versions more. They’re edited better.

RYAN: I didn’t see this one with you. Is it worth renting?

CAROLINE: Yeah, I’d say so, especially since we love Paul Rudd. The movie’s a little silly overall, but it’s very funny and sweet too.

RYAN: Next up is one of last year’s Oscar nominated films, “Milk,” for which Sean Penn won Best Actor. This movie is not to be missed.

CAROLINE: Definitely not. It’s one of my favorites from ’08 for sure. I couldn’t believe how good Sean Penn was, especially in his final scene. If you missed it in the theater, it’s a must-rent.

RYAN: I had some problems with the film overall, and I thought the second half was much better than the first half. But it’s a really important movie to see, and I’m glad that Harvey Milk is on people’s radars now.

CAROLINE: Next up is “Rachel Getting Married,” a really intense family drama for which Anne Hathaway got Oscar nominated. The movie has some problems too, but some of the scenes are pretty incredible. It’s hard to watch at times.

RYAN: I almost felt sick watching parts of it, but Anne is amazing. It’s a very heavy movie, but worth renting if you want to see some truly amazing performances. Debra Winger was phenomenal.

CAROLINE: There’s one scene between her and Anne that’s unbelievably good, but really dramatic and painful. I loved it. But then that horrible wedding scene went on forever at the end. I was so over it.

RYAN: OMG I know! They played that wedding music for way too long. But if you’re in the mood for a serious film and you can handle all the drug addiction stuff, this one’s for you.

CAROLINE: Finally we have “Cadillac Records” starring Beyoncé, Mos Def and Jeffrey Wright. I missed this in the theater and I regret it. I’ve already added it to my Netflix queue. Apparently the singing is phenomenal.

RYAN: This is the one where Beyoncé gets to play Etta James and sing “At Last.” Will she ever do a movie role that doesn’t require singing?

CAROLINE: I know, right? She does have that movie coming out soon with Ali Larter where she plays the jilted wife. Probably no singing there.

RYAN: Good. I’m ready to see if this girl can actually act.

Thanks For Viewing The New on DVD
