New On DVD
CAROLINE: It’s a slow month for quality new movies, and it’s a slow week for quality new DVDs. Let’s start with “Tyler Perry’s The Family That Preys.”
RYAN: This isn’t a great flick. I can’t say you have to run out and rent it, but you should if you love Tyler Perry. I did like Robin Givens in this though.
CAROLINE: I thought she was awful. But I dug Sanaa Lathan.
RYAN: It’s also got Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard so it’s a real female-driven cast, which I enjoyed. The DVD has deleted scenes and some featurettes. His movies aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I think this one’s all right.
CAROLINE: I wasn’t a huge fan. Next up is “My Best Friend’s Girl,” which we thought was kind of funny. I don’t think anyone else saw it though.
RYAN: It stars Dane Cook, Kate Hudson and Jason Biggs, and it was a great rom com.
CAROLINE: I think it surprised us both by not being terrible. Also surprising to you was how hot Dane Cook is.
RYAN: Seriously! I’ve never loved his looks but he looks so good in this movie.
CAROLINE: Getting to see him mostly naked makes this movie worth renting. He’s ridiculously hot. Plus it made me laugh. It’s really raunchy though so don’t watch it with the kiddies.
RYAN: There’s an unrated version of the DVD with tons of extras like a gag reel, audio commentary from Jason Biggs and the director and the writer, deleted scenes and some fun featurettes.
CAROLINE: I’d actually recommend this as a rental if you like this cast. It was very funny with very adult humor that made us chortle.
RYAN: Plus Alec Baldwin makes a brief appearance as Dane Cook’s dad, and he’s brilliant as always.
