New On DVD

CAROLINE: It’s a big week for DVD releases, starting with the Will Smith summer movie, “Hancock.”

RYAN: I really liked this movie, and would definitely recommend it for a rental. It’s not your traditional superhero movie, but it’s got some very interesting, dynamic things going on.

CAROLINE: Will Smith is great in it, of course. Watching him you can’t help but be reminded why he’s a huge star. But I also loved Jason Bateman. He gets cuter with each passing day.

RYAN: Charlize Theron is also good as Jason Bateman’s wife, and she looks gorgeous. This movie gives an interesting twist on a genre we all enjoy.

CAROLINE: It’s short and sweet too, which we always love. Look for the unrated 2-disc DVD with lots of featurettes on the making of the film.

RYAN: Next up is Vince Vaughn’s holiday offering from last year, “Fred Claus.”

CAROLINE: Oddly, it’s just coming out on DVD now. At first I thought that was weird, but the more that I think about it, it makes sense.

RYAN: Yeah. There’s really no reason to release a Christmas movie on DVD in April.

CAROLINE: Exactly. This movie kinda tanked last year, but we both loved it. It was so charming and heartwarming; perfect for the holidays. Vince Vaughn plays Santa’s wayward younger brother and it’s just so cute.

RYAN: The cast is fab too: Elizabeth Banks, Kathy Bates, Kevin Spacey, Paul Giamatti and Rachel Weisz. It’s a great rental for this time of year.

CAROLINE: Finally, we have that animated kids’ movie, “Space Chimps,” which, mercifully, you saw without me.

RYAN: Come on, it was cute. But definitely for the young, young set; it’s very pre-schoolish.

CAROLINE: Lots of great actors did the voices for this one: Jane Lynch, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth, Jeff Daniels and Andy Samberg from SNL.

RYAN: It’s a cute rental for the kiddies, and the animation is outstanding. But I didn’t love it as I’ve loved some other animated movies we’ve seen this year.
