New On DVD
CAROLINE: It’s a big day for the kiddies – “Wall-E” is out on DVD and Blu-ray.
RYAN: Honey, it’s a big day for the adults too – “Wall-E” was loved by audiences of all ages.
CAROLINE: I have to admit it’s pretty cute as animated kids’ movies go; but we agreed it started to lose steam after an hour or so.
RYAN: It did, but this will definitely be nominated for Best Animated Film at the Oscars. The animation and the sound were incredible.
CAROLINE: And I liked how there was barely any dialogue for the first half hour but we were still completely engaged. It’s got a good story.
RYAN: There’s both a 2-disc and a 3-disc Special Edition of the DVD coming out today. Not sure what the difference is, but big fans will want to purchase it immediately.
CAROLINE: Next up is a movie much more to my overall liking and sensibility, Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder,” starring himself, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr.
RYAN: We LOL’ed during this movie many, many times.
CAROLINE: It was hilarious! Definitely worth renting if you haven’t seen it. Robert Downey Jr. in blackface was controversial, but he’s so over-the-top and funny that I think no one cared about the un-P.C.-ness of it. There’s even Best Supporting Actor Oscar buzz for him; though I think it’s a long shot.
RYAN: And let’s not forget how brilliant and hilarious Tom Cruise was! Not to mention Steve Coogan.
CAROLINE: They’re releasing an Unrated Director’s Cut of the film on DVD, which I’m sure is funny, but I sometimes prefer the shorter/still hilarious regular version which we all loved in the theater.
RYAN: Totally. But see it either way – it’s one of the best comedies of the year.
