New on DVD
CAROLINE: New on DVD today we have that crazy horror movie we saw earlier this year, “The Ruins.”
RYAN: OMG it was so creepy and gross. It wasn’t necessarily worth paying 11 bucks to see it in the theater, but it would make a fun rental on a dark and stormy night.
CAROLINE: Just make sure you’re not watching it alone. I’m sure some people would laugh at this movie; it’s pretty implausible and it’s more gore than horror. But I read the book it’s based on, so I was into the psychology of it.
RYAN: And the book was written by the same guy who wrote, “A Simple Plan,” which turned into that Billy Bob Thornton movie, so you know he’s not all bad.
CAROLINE: Next we have “Stop-Loss” starring Ryan Phillippe and that girl he’s dating and allegedly left Reese for, Abbie Cornish.
RYAN: I thought this movie was very well done by Kimberly Peirce, who also directed “Boys Don’t Cry.”
CAROLINE: Yes, but I found it so heavy and depressing. We’ve seen so many war movies in the past eight months, and this one might have been the biggest bummer of all.
RYAN: I know, but it was good. It’s just hard watching a movie about a war we’re currently fighting. The DVD has some cool features like deleted scenes, audio commentary from Kimberly Peirce and featurettes about the making of the movie and what boot camp is like.
CAROLINE: Rent it if you’re a glutton for punishment.
