New on DVD
CAROLINE: There is a veritable plethora of new movies coming out on DVD today, starting with “Jumper,” starring Hayden Christensen, Samuel “Paycheck” Jackson and Rachel Bilson.
RYAN: Don’t forget that Jamie Bell – he was so good in this. The special effects are awesome, and even though it’s not a great film, it’s a fun movie. There’s a special 2-disc edition of the DVD for those who are into it. CAROLINE: Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman’s “Bucket List” is also new on DVD today. This movie was a little sappy but I really liked it. RYAN: I still haven’t seen it. Is it worth renting?
CAROLINE: I’m not sure you’d love it, but if you go in with low expectations you might. Sean Hayes from TV’s “Will & Grace” plays Jack Nicholson’s assistant, and he’s hilarious.
RYAN: All right, I’ll consider it. We’ve also got “The Other Boleyn Girl” out on DVD today, starring Natalie Portman, Eric Bana and Scarlett Johansson. This movie was pretty blah. CAROLINE: Yeah, I heard the book was much better. The movie has a lot of corsets and heaving bosoms, but the whole thing is a little melodramatic. But Natalie Portman is surprisingly decent in this. Usually she can’t act her way out of a paper bag.RYAN: That was a pleasant surpise. For our final DVD release, we have “Funny Games,” starring Naomi Watts and Tim Roth. This is one of the most freaky and terrifying movies we’ve ever seen.
CAROLINE: Hands down! Psychological horror at its best… or worst depending on how you feel about it. Rent it at your own risk, and definitely don’t watch it alone.
