New on DVD
CAROLINE: The first of Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig’s 2007 flops, “The Invasion,” is out on DVD today.
RYAN: Please be kind. You know how I love “The Golden Compass.”
CAROLINE: Well, we didn’t even hate “The Invasion.” Not that it was fabulous, but it was fun to watch Nicole’s immobile face and her love connection with 007. And let’s be honest, the whole thing was just a veiled version of what happened to her with Tom Cruise and Scientology.
RYAN: We thought it was a fun flick despite all the negative press. I wouldn’t say you have to rush out and rent it, but if you’re in the mood for a little sci-fi, you’ll enjoy it. There aren’t any great DVD extras, just a couple featurettes.
CAROLINE: So let’s move on. A little movie called “Bordertown” also is out on DVD, and it stars Jennifer Lopez. Don’t remember this movie from last year? No, you don’t… because it was supposed to be released in theaters and has now more or less gone straight to DVD! Sorry J. Lo.
RYAN: Wait, is this the one that she was so excited to make about the murders of 400 women in Mexico?
CAROLINE: Correct. It’s also got Martin Sheen and Antonio Banderas. It had a very limited release last year, but it basically got buried. Now it’s out in all it’s DVD glory. I guess not everything J. Lo touches turns to gold.
RYAN: At least she has her precious babies to look forward to.
CAROLINE: The DVD has audio commentary from the director and some info on the murders in Mexico. That doesn’t really scream “run out and rent me.”
RYAN: Stand by. Better DVDs will come out next week, we promise.
