New on DVD

CAROLINE: Usually new DVDs come out Tuesday, which is Christmas this year, so I was sorta wondering how they were going to handle new releases this week. Turns out the new ones come out today, and the first is “Eastern Promises” starring Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts. It’s a good one if you don’t mind violence.

RYAN: Yes, it got three Golden Globe nominations including Best Actor and Best Picture.

CAROLINE: It also stars that French actor Vincent Cassel who was so creepy in “Derailed.” He’s so good at playing bad.
RYAN: The DVD extras aren’t so hot; basically just a breakdown of Viggo’s crazy Russian tattoos and some info on where they shot the film. But it’s definitely worth renting, especially if you liked “The History of Violence.” Viggo is just as good, if not better, in this.

CAROLINE: Also out today is “The Kingdom,” which hardly anyone saw but I adored. It’s got our girl, Jenny Garner, as well as Jamie Foxx and cutie pie Jason Bateman.

RYAN: Ooh, I should rent this because I didn’t get to see it with you. The DVD has deleted scenes and commentary from director Peter Berg, as well as some featurettes about the action sequences.

CAROLINE: Seriously, it’s a great flick even though it’s about the current war. It’s topical and newsy, but still action-packed and lots of fun.
RYAN: And finally, “Rush Hour 3” comes out on DVD today too, starring who else? Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Extras include commentary from the director Brett Ratner, outtakes and a making-of featurette.

CAROLINE: We saw this in the theater with some reluctance, but it was OK. If you like the franchise, rent it. If not, skip it.

Thanks For Viewing The New on DVD
