New on DVD

CAROLINE: Two movies we really liked are out on DVD today. First up is the sleeper hit of the year, “Waitress.”

RYAN: Oh how we loved this movie! Keri Russell is sublime as a pregnant diner waitress who’s having an affair with her doctor.

CAROLINE: It’s truly a must-rent, even if you’ve already seen it. I would totally watch it again. And Keri Russell provides audio commentary for the DVD.

RYAN: There are also some other DVD extras about all the pie-making in the film, featurettes about the characters and information about the Adrienne Shelly Foundation. She’s the woman who directed the movie and was killed before it came out, sadly.

CAROLINE: That was a huge loss. Also on DVD today is “The Namesake,” starring the dude from “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.”

RYAN: This was an OK flick but it was very ill-represented by its trailer.

CAROLINE: Yeah, the movie wasn’t exactly what we expected, but I remember liking it very much when we saw it earlier this year. It certainly made me cry a lot.

RYAN: The DVD extras include deleted scenes, audio commentary from the director Mira Nair and a few featurettes about Kal Penn a.k.a. Kumar.

CAROLINE: And finally, this is barely worth mentioning, but we’ll throw it a bone: “Hot Rod,” the unfunny comedy from SNL’s Andy Samberg also comes out on DVD today.

RYAN: OMG that was a disaster. I think we each laughed once. Let’s not speak of it again.
