New on DVD

CAROLINE: A movie I could care less about comes out on DVD today, and of course it’s a special 2-disc edition. Would we expect anything less from “Transformers”?
RYAN: Of course not. This movie was way too long but kind of cool nonetheless, and the DVD extras are great: audio commentary from director Michael Bay and an interview with producer Steven Speilberg, tons of behind-the-scenes stuff on the making of the transformers like how they worked with Chevy and Hasbro to get the look down. I think it’s worth a rental at least.

CAROLINE: Surely it was better on the big screen, but I wouldn’t rent this; it’s totally a boy movie. “A Mighty Heart” comes out on DVD today too, which is slightly more my speed.
RYAN: This generated Oscar buzz for Angelina Jolie when it came out in June. But you liked it more than I did.

CAROLINE: I loved this movie. It was just so well done and such an inspirational story. I loved how it was shot in a very realistic way. I think they captured the story of Daniel Pearl and his wife’s struggle so well.

RYAN: Since it’s a serious film, the DVD extras are serious too; a PSA about the Pearl Foundation, as well as a “making of” feature.

CAROLINE: This is definitely worth renting if you missed it in the theater, as many people did. It didn’t get huge box office, but it’s great.
