My Top 10 Movies of 2016
The 22nd annual Critics’ Choice Awards was great fun on A&E. Ten of the year’s finest films competed for best picture, some of which also made my Top 10 List! These are my favorites of 2016:
10) Hidden Figures
Brilliant ensemble work telling the true story in a suspenseful way, honoring people who deserve to be honored.
9) Captain Fantastic
A great dramedy that will shake up the way you look at society. I still think about the themes in this terrifically entertaining film.
8) The Conjuring 2
What instantly became my favorite horror movie (replacing Funny Games, which was my fave since 2007).
7) Miss Sloane
I kinda wanna be Jessica Chastain in this movie. So intense!
6) The Witch
I love witches!! I love Salem and it’s terrifying American history. This film captures the lore incredibly well.
5) Lion
One of the most beautiful and emotional films of the year – an outstanding expression of survival, love and devotion. Every technical and creative aspect of this film is sheer excellence!
4) The Edge of Seventeen
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll relive high school – you will LOVE this movie!
3) Arrival
Almost like a companion piece to one of my favorite films, Contact, this one is deep, edgy and wonderful.
2) La La Land
Musicals are my fave. I wish we had several new in theaters every year. This one is worth the wait… and the buzz.
1) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
I’m a ginormous Harry Potter fan and the return to JK Rowling’s Wizarding World is the year’s best delight.
If I could choose more than 10:
I also loved Pete’s Dragon, Moana and Equity.
