MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND

CAROLINE: Well, “My Super Ex-Girlfriend” started out with a bang.

RYAN: And overall, it was better than I thought it
would be. Especially considering how poorly it did at the box office
its opening weekend.

CAROLINE: The first 20-30 minutes were riotously funny and I was
howling with laughter. And I thought, my perceptions of this film
were all wrong.

RYAN: I love, love Anna Faris.

CAROLINE: Yeah, I didn’t even know she was in this so that was a
pleasant surprise.

RYAN: Wanda Sykes makes a special appearance.

CAROLINE: She’s always ‘ilarious.

RYAN: Uma Thurman is just terrific. She has an incredible speaking voice.

CAROLINE: She does, and she has very long fingers.

RYAN: She’s statuesque.

CAROLINE: And at first I wasn’t sure how I would feel about her in a
comedic role but she totally pulled it off.

RYAN: Yeah, she dabble diddle did it. This is the first time we’ve seen her as a
superhero since she was Poison Ivy in the Batman film. And this was
a perfect role for her. And Luke Wilson was good too.

CAROLINE: Yeah, for all the dissing we’ve been doing of his puffiness,
he’s actually quite cute in this and I’d date him.

RYAN: I remember thinking when I saw the trailer that the effects were
really bad but they were actually really good.

CAROLINE: Ya.

RYAN: Luke’s sidekick was really funny but he was a wee bit fugly.

CAROLINE: He’s the guy from “The Office” and he’s certainly not a
looker. He played such a stereotypical part – the caddish male best
friend. It reminded me of Jim Belushi in “About Last Night” and I was
a little tired of it, honestly.

RYAN: I’m very not-attracted to Luke Wilson, I’m sorry.

CAROLINE: No??

RYAN: I haven’t been attracted to him since “Legally Blond.”

CAROLINE: I have to say, I know I dissed him for his fat face in our
Trailer Tuesdays, but I found him very cute in this movie and kinda up
my alley, as he is tall with brown hair.

RYAN: Here’s the thing – this isn’t a perfect film. It’s
a summer movie and it’s fun and light and it’s definitely
entertaining. And we’ve all been at that place in our lives where we
wish we could throw a shark at an ex. So in that sense, it’s really
fun – like vicariously living out your revenge through this film.

CAROLINE: It just sort of took a turn, after about the first third,
and it got a little long and slow and repetitive. The jokes became
hollow. They were kind of the same jokes as in the beginning, and I
was ready for new ones and they never came.

RYAN: And the effects peaked early. They peaked in
the middle. And the movie was a little too long. It could
have been twenty minutes shorter. Final thought?

CAROLINE: It’s cute and laugh-out-loud funny in the first chunk. I
loved the characters and the storyline was cute but it started to wear
a little thin as it went on.

RYAN: I thought it was great seeing New York City in this movie and it
was a good story; just light fun. Not nearly as bad as everyone
is panning it to be.
