Movie News – New “Dark” Pinocchio!
RYAN: I know you’ll barely care about this news, but there’s one aspect that may interest you.
CAROLINE: Does it involve children’s fare?
RYAN: A bit. There’s to be a new “Pinocchio” movie.
CAROLINE: I’m out.
RYAN: But it’s being developed by Guillermo del Toro who brought us the brilliant “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “Hellboy 2.” He’s the master of couture creatures.
CAROLINE: Hmm. That’s interesting. I sort of love to hate his creatures. They totally freak me out, but I can appreciate the aesthetic.
RYAN: He is a visual genius. This remake is of the stop-motion animation variety and it’s in conjunction with the Jim Henson Company.
CAROLINE: Wait. Next you’ll tell me Kermit the Frog will play Pinocchio and Miss Piggy’s The Blue Fairy.
RYAN: I wouldn’t mind that, but it’s not a Muppets production.
CAROLINE: Whew.
RYAN: I think this will turn out to be a movie Tim Burton wished he’d directed.
CAROLINE: Is Guillermo directing?
RYAN: No, just producing, I think. He’s next directing the big “Hobbit” movies with Peter Jackson.
CAROLINE: Oh that’s right.
