Movie News – A Hairspray Sequel!

RYAN: How over the moon are we about the news that John Waters is working on a sequel to the movie version of “Hairspray”?

CAROLINE: I’m a little lukewarm on the idea actually.

RYAN: Don’t be such a Scrooge! We really liked the movie.

CAROLINE: That’s exactly why I think it’s a bad idea. I just hate how in Hollywood every decent movie thinks it deserves a sequel. Let us not forget the train wreck that was “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde.”

RYAN: Ouch. We shan’t speak of that again. But I, for one, am thrilled whenever a new movie musical comes to Hollywood, so I’m super excited for another “Hairspray.”

CAROLINE: I hear you. I’d just prefer that John Waters did something totally original rather than revisit these characters who’ve been around since the late 80s. What on earth will Tracy Turnblad do this time? She’s already battled civil rights and performed on her favorite show.

RYAN: She can do whatever she wants and I’ll be thrilled! The sequel is scheduled to come out in July of 2010.

CAROLINE: You know Nikki Blonsky is doing a hysterical dance of joy right now. Not only can she stay fat, but she’s finally going to act again. She’ll be the first to sign on.

RYAN: The real question is what are the odds of getting John Travolta back into the fat suit?

CAROLINE: Please – I might have nightmares.
