MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY
RYAN: My favorite movie of the year thus far is “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day,” starring my favorite actress of the moment, Amy Adams.
CAROLINE: Well, actually it stars Frances McDormand who plays the titular Miss Pettigrew. She does very funny facial expressions and a great British accent.
RYAN: It also stars many a hot man including Lee Pace from TV’s “Pushing Daisies.” We actually got to interview him at the junket for this film, and all I can say is “Lee, I’ll marry you, I’ll marry you, I’ll marry you.”
CAROLINE: He is a tall drink of water, that’s for sure. I met him before I saw the movie, and though I found him hot in real life, I literally swooned when he came onscreen. He is looking oh-so-good.
RYAN: I believe you swooned when he waved at you from the interview room at the junket.
CAROLINE: True, but he’s even more TD&H in this movie than he was in person. He eats the camera. I think the period that it takes place in, pre-WWII London, treats him very well.
RYAN: I am not one to disagree with that. I always thought he was cute on TV, but after seeing him in person, all I could think was “I wanna rock your body.”
CAROLINE: This is a light-hearted, frothy, fun movie that takes place over the course of one day and I found it delightful.
RYAN: I liked it because it has Amy Adams singing, as she did in “Enchanted.” She also plays a whimsical character again, and this movie is a great vehicle for her. She’s fast becoming one of the actresses that I’ll see anything she’s in. She can do no wrong in my book.
CAROLINE: She really captures that 1930s actressy voice. It’s not quite Judy Garland, but it’s sing-songy and she talks really fast. It really brings you back to that era, not that I was alive then. But it’s a very convincing performance. Basically, the movie is just a fun romp.
RYAN: It also has Moaning Myrtle from the Harry Potter films. And those who don’t know whence she’s from might actually believe Frances McDormand to be British in real life.
CAROLINE: Totally. She does a great job of playing a dowdy nanny in the opening scenes. She even has cankles. I don’t think she has cankles in real life though; it was probably just her bad shoes.
RYAN: Bottom line?
CAROLINE: I don’t how much of wide release this movie is going to get, but I hope people see it because it’s really cute and farcical. I know you really loved it.
RYAN: This is getting my seal of approval ’08. It’s a must-see in my book.
