MEET THE SPARTANS

CAROLINE: Once again, Ryan, you’ve done me a solid. Thank you kindly for seeing “Meet the Spartans” without me. This might be the nicest thing you’ve ever done for me.

RYAN: I remember how painful “Date Movie” was for you, and since this movie has the same creators, I thought I’d valiantly spare you.

CAROLINE: I know you like these movies… so what’s the verdict?

RYAN: This is a good one that’s pretty much spoofs last year’s “300,” but it wins real laughs in spoofing reality TV shows and pop culture headlines. There’s a lot of singing and dancing in it, which you know I love. And let’s face it; the guys aren’t hard to look at.

CAROLINE: So there’s plenty of shirtless, muscular action?

RYAN: Tons. Sadly though, they are many cheap laughs targeting gay humor. I can appreciate it, but seeing it with a mainstream audience and hearing people laugh with disgust at the sight of two guys kissing felt very disparaging and offensive. It denotes how far we still have to come in terms of gay rights.

CAROLINE: Given that movies like “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” are still being made, I guess that’s not a shock. How’s our gal, Carmen Electra?

RYAN: Absolutely buoyant.

CAROLINE: Is that in reference to her breasticles?

RYAN: Of course! She’s actually not bad in this, and she’s so pretty that I wonder why she doesn’t get more work. Maybe it’s because she has the body of a porn star.

CAROLINE: Are there any other celebs in the movie?

RYAN: Method Man, as well as the big fat guy from “Borat.” He’s got a sizeable role.

CAROLINE: He’s pretty funny, I must admit. Bottom line?

RYAN: As far as these movies go, this is one of the best I’ve seen. If you’re into “Airplane”-type spoofy stuff, you’ll like it. They also rip on Brangelina, Britney, Lindsay, Paris and all the usual suspects. There’s a funny sequence about “Dancing With the Stars” as well as “American Idol” and Tyra. They do a great job with casting and writing, and it really pays off. You can tell they work hard on the jokes.

CAROLINE: So did you laugh?

RYAN: Yes, I actually LOL’ed a few times. But not when everyone else in the audience was laughing.

Thanks For Viewing The MEET THE SPARTANS
