MADE OF HONOR
CAROLINE: “Made of Honor” is a typical, predictable, formulaic Hollywood romantic comedy, and I loved every minute of it.
RYAN: I didn’t love every minute, but I did really enjoy it. You told me you read that Patrick Dempsey said he knows his fan base and that’s why he consistently makes movies like this. And he’s definitely choosing the right vehicles to please us.
CAROLINE: This is a perfect movie for him. He plays a too-rich-for-his-own-good playboy type, and aside from the money part, it’s not all that different from his McDreamy role. He’s just so fun to watch.
RYAN: It’s also not that different from the role he played in “Enchanted,” but this time he doesn’t have a daughter. It’s a really cute movie. The premise is basically “My Best Friend’s Wedding” with the genders flipped, but the story is pretty different.
CAROLINE: It also reminded me of “The Wedding Date” with Debra Messing because it takes place in Scotland, so it has the beautiful countryside and Scottish wedding traditions. And I like Michelle Monaghan too.
RYAN: Kathleen Quinlan plays her mom, and she was Oscar nominated for “Apollo 13.” She was great, and I would have liked to see more of her. The rest of the supporting cast is pretty good too.
CAROLINE: There are some actors you’ll recognize but no one super famous, including this blond girl who has some very unfortunate dark moles all over her neck.
RYAN: The one thing I didn’t like was all guy stuff, like the basketball scenes with Patrick Dempsey and his buddies. I thought he should have had one main friend, not three of them. Only one of them was actually helpful to him, and those buddy moments were wasted scenes to me.
CAROLINE: I see what you mean, and there were a couple jokes that fell flat. But other than that, this movie was just what I wanted. Michelle Monaghan is so cute and she still really reminds me of Juliette Lewis, especially the way she talks. And I thought she and Patrick Dempsey had really good chemistry.
RYAN: Their chemistry really is great, and we know that’s hard to pull off on screen, even with real-life couples. Michelle gets to show a wide range of emotions in this movie, and she does a really good job. Her wardrobe is also fabulous. Bottom line?
CAROLINE: I loved this movie! I’d recommend it to all my girls for sure. Don’t go in with even a drop of cynicism because you know exactly what you’re getting here. It’s a true rom com, you know how it’s going to end and you wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s delicious and I even shed a tear at the end.
RYAN: I enjoyed this too and I was happy go along for the ride. The end was exciting and it turns out exactly the way you want it too. I loved the music too, especially the Sara Bareilles song in the opening credits.
CAROLINE: Love that song! I also want to add that this movie has the best skewering of a sugar daddy I’ve ever seen on film. Sydney Pollack plays Patrick Dempsey’s dad going through his sixth wedding and he’s hilarious. His hashing out of the pre-nup is one of the funniest moments in the movie.

I am not sure if you will get this or not but I wanted to comment anyway. I look at your blog on a daily basis now. I just rented Made of Honor and went back to view your review on this movie. I agree with both of you, it is an adorable movie. BUT I HATED THE ENDING!!!! There is no way in the world she should of dropped Colin and end up with “McDreamy”. Colin was the prefect man (in my eyes as well as a lot of other gay men and straight women), the fact that he happened to be handsome, athletic, had money and a big cock (so the movie made it seem) were added bonuses! I don’t know too many women or men who would pass those things up. But I guess underneath, it was really a win/win for her because Both men had money and looks. I guess my bottom line is: Does true love really take precedence in real life?
