MACHETE

RYAN: I knew very little about Machete when walking into the press screening for it and whoa! was I ever surprised!

CAROLINE: Well it’s Robert Rodriguez. You kind of know you’re in for a Quentin Tarantino-esque film with him.

RYAN: It is all that. I was kind of blown away by it.

CAROLINE: Honey, I know. You were very excited about it after seeing it.

RYAN: First of all, it’s phenomenally violent and bloody; just over the top violence to the point where it’s actually entertaining.

CAROLINE: Like Kill Bill kind of violence?

RYAN: Completely. And it’s all with a wink almost, so that’s why it’s okay in a way.

CAROLINE: Yeah, there seems to be a fine line in storytelling when violence becomes entertaining.

RYAN: It’s not sickening like Piranha 3D but it’s still very bloody and gross at moments.

CAROLINE: So dish – how’s Lindsay Lohan in it?

RYAN: Somewhat understated. Nude. Pretty good and underused.

CAROLINE: Wow, okay.

RYAN: She’s hardly in it. The nudity throughout the film is amazingly gratuitous but also very funny and at times gorgeous.

CAROLINE: You’re being way too descriptive in this review.

RYAN: I know. But it’s a good movie and it’s all of those things.

CAROLINE: How was Michelle Rodriguez?

RYAN: She’s so badass. She’s one tough lesbo for sure.

CAROLINE: Who are the other standouts?

RYAN: Robert De Niro is brilliant, as always. Don Johnson is in it a bit and he’s very good, and then there’s Jessica Alba who, wait for it, actually acts in this movie! I was absolutely shocked by her performance. It’s the first time I’ve ever liked her in a film.

CAROLINE: That’s crazy talk!

RYAN: Crazy and true.

CAROLINE: Well, I’m still not dying to see it but I think I could appreciate the campy B-movieness of it.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: I was surprised all across the board by this movie – it’s just super fun, shocking, crazy and cool. It’s a good, political story and artfully told in that wild violent-campy way.
