LYMELIFE

RYAN: “Lymelife” is a new indie movie starring Alec Baldwin, who’s all the rage now what with the ginormous popularity of TV’s “30 Rock.”

CAROLINE: Love him. He’s enjoying quite the career resurgence since that show, winning awards and all. I’m sorry I missed this movie. How is he in it?

RYAN: He’s terrific. This movie is very much “The Ice Storm” from another perspective.

CAROLINE: I loved that movie.

RYAN: It deals with themes of marriage, sibling rivalry, young love, adultery, and coming of age, all within the confines of a Long Island suburb in the ’70s.

CAROLINE: Sounds intriguing. And Cynthia Nixon’s in it too?

RYAN: Yes. And she’s so good in everything she does, really, isn’t she?

CAROLINE: Totally. She’s so natural.

RYAN: She and Alec have some excellent scenes together. She plays the mother of Emma Roberts’ character.

CAROLINE: I wonder how Emma broke into the business – niece of one Julia Roberts, anyone?

RYAN: [laughs’ I know! Pathetic. But among the movies I’ve seen her in, from “Hotel for Dogs” to “Nancy Drew,” she really works it out in this one. She’s one of the, dare I say, best things about this. It’s a break-out role for her.

CAROLINE: Wow.

RYAN: Seriously, I full-on accept her as an actress now.

CAROLINE: Well she is paying her dues, I suppose.

RYAN: And there’s more good, clean Hollywood nepotism going on in this film. The brothers Culkin, youngers of Macaulay, play bros on screen.

CAROLINE: How were they?

RYAN: Both good, but one is totally much cuter than the other.

CAROLINE: It’s so sad for Macaulay, the hit child star who crashed and burned yet paved the way for his siblings’ indie film careers.

RYAN: It’s an interesting family story for sure – much like this movie is as well. It also stars Timothy Hutton in a dramatic role.

CAROLINE: What a good cast.

RYAN: And the film is great, really. It’s a tense story that is very well written and the timing of how it all unfolds is the magic that keeps it moving. The music is great and there are moments when you feel like you’re on pins and needles. And I really loved the ending.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: It’s a fab movie that’s definitely worth seeing when you’re in the mood for a small family drama.
