Love is All You Need Review

RYAN: I just adore this movie.  It’s so much like real life – painful, funny, sincere, heartbreaking, with real ups and downs emotionally – one of my faves of the year so far.

CAROLINE: Wow really?  It’s only month five.

RYAN: I know.  But so far, this is one of the biggest reactions I’ve had to a film this year.

CAROLINE: Cool. Why?

RYAN: The script is brilliant.  It’s a Danish film by Oscar-winning, Danish director Susanne Bier.  It’s half in Danish, half English.

CAROLINE: Interesting.

RYAN: But it doesn’t feel like a foreign film.  And aside from the script the casting is stellar.

CAROLINE: Hang on.  You’re talking about Pierce Brosnan here.

RYAN: Yes. And I know there’s been backlash against him since Mamma Mia!, but let me tell you this is the role he was born to play.  And he’s not even the best thing about it.  It’s really all about the leading actress here – Trine Dyrholm.

CAROLINE: We’re not familiar with her, are we?

RYAN: Not before this, though she’s made a load of foreign movies.  But seriously, last time I reacted so intensely to a performance was Marion Cotillard in La Vie en Rose.

CAROLINE: And she won Best Actress for that.

RYAN: I know.  And Trine is award worthy in this role.  She’s outstanding.  There is something so watchable and engaging about her. I just loved looking at her in this movie.  She has big, expressive eyes and wears her heart on her sleeve and I just love, loved her in this film.

CAROLINE: Honey, you’re raving.

RYAN: I know.  And the supporting cast is strong too.  It’s a terrific movie because everything works so well.  It takes place between Belgium and Italy, which is gorge.  The scenery is nice, the costumes help tell the story, the hair… all of it comes together so brilliantly.

CAROLINE: Now I wanna see it.

RYAN: You will love it.  The subplots are as compelling as the main plot of the film and the drama is as wrenching as the comedy is funny.

CAROLINE: Ok, I’m sold.

RYAN: Amidst the flurry of action and effects blockbusters, this is a romantic dramedy that’s worth it on the big screen.
