LOTTERY TICKET

RYAN: I went into this movie really hoping it would be fun.

CAROLINE: And?

RYAN: It has a couple moments, but overall it’s really cheesy. I didn’t laugh out loud at all. It suffers from the same problem than most of the Madea movies suffer from – which is that it can’t really pick a genre.

CAROLINE: I wasn’t able to attend the screening with you, which I can’t say I’m sad about. What genres did it cover?

RYAN: Rom com, comedy, drama and a little bit of action, I suppose. There are a few fight and chase scenes. I was hoping it would be a little more of a coming-of-age story. There were some characters that grew a bit, but not much.

CAROLINE: How’s Bow Wow?

RYAN: He’s a pretty good actor. The script is lame though. The story could have been less cliché too. I mean, we can all imagine how people would come out of the woodwork if we won $370 million in the lottery, but still.

CAROLINE: So it’s pretty thin?

RYAN: Yeah – but I liked Loretta Devine as Bow Wow’s grandma and Ice T was pretty decent.

CAROLINE: [laughs’ You mean Ice Cube?

RYAN: Oh yeah. My bad.

CAROLINE: Any other impressions?

RYAN: There are quite a few stereotypes and clichés of the projects that some might find funny cause it’s true, you know? But I thought it was kind of unoriginal.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: I wasn’t offended by this movie, but I was certainly bored during it. There’s a major lull about three-quarters of the way through where it could have been cut a bit. It’s cute at its best moments, but I can’t say it’s even worth a rental.
