LIVE Blog: 2008 SAG Awards

CAROLINE: OK, you know I think this awards show is very self-serving.

RYAN: You do think that; however, it’s a fun show where the actors get to support each other. And at this point, where we missed a Golden Globes show, I’m all for the SAGs!

CAROLINE: I’ll accept that. But the whole introduction of “…and I’m an actor” is so useless.

RYAN: I think it’s funny. And did you catch the announcer screwing up Marion Cotillard’s name?

CAROLINE: I know!

RYAN: Clearly he didn’t rehearse the list ahead of time. What a loser.

CAROLINE: We’re 28 minutes in. Could we get to a movie category already?

RYAN: Oh, wait… here we go!

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

JAVIER BARDEM – “No Country For Old Men”

CAROLINE: Rock out! He totally deserves it.

RYAN: We love it! The minute we walked out of the theater after this film, we knew he had accomplished something special…

CAROLINE: …and terrifying…

RYAN: …in that role. Go Javier!

CAROLINE: OMG. Burt Reynolds cannot walk!

RYAN: I know! Is he ok?

CAROLINE: I’m sure I don’t know. But maybe we’d better hurry up and give him a lifetime achievement award, if you know what I mean.

RYAN: I do indeed. In the meantime, I’m sorry for what I’m about to say, but can we please start giving lifetime awards to people a wee bit younger? I mean, that Charles Durning is kinda hard to look at.

CAROLINE: [laughs’ He seems so agile in the movies, but he can barely walk right now.

RYAN: How hot is that Ben Foster?

CAROLINE: I know he’s in your list of Hollywood’s Hottest, but I just don’t see it.

RYAN: I’d like to personally thank the Screen Actors Guild for inviting him to present “3:10 to Yuma.”

CAROLINE: I love how when someone’s not there to accept the award, all the losing nominees look around to see if he or she is there to walk up.

RYAN: You know they’re all thinking, “I’m here. You should have awarded me.”

CAROLINE: Totally.

RYAN: I wish Amy Adams was here tonight. And Kristin Chenoweth.

CAROLINE: Of course you do. And I wish we could get to the friggin’ movie categories again.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

RYAN: Whatever!

CAROLINE: Seriously.

RYAN: I don’t even think anything about “American Gangster” is nomination worthy. There. I just said it.

CAROLINE: I know. With movies like “Atonement” last year, I can’t explain this one.

RYAN: Maybe ‘cos she’s so old, her peers gave her the sympathy vote.

CAROLINE: She’s the Phylicia Rashad of someone’s generation. And I think she’s having this year’s on-screen stroke.

RYAN: [laughs’]

CAROLINE: Wow. Check out Daniel Day-Lewis seated at Brangelina’s table!

RYAN: Hollywood brilliance!

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS – “There Will Be Blood”

RYAN: I’m in love with him. And this award is most deserving.

CAROLINE: He really did absorb himself into this role.

RYAN: And way to go honoring Heath Ledger in your acceptance speech, DDL.

CAROLINE: That’s the second time this week he’s mentioned Heath publicly. He did it on Oprah too.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

JULIE CHRISTIE – “Away From Her”

RYAN: Whoomp. There it is. Another career vote.

CAROLINE: Yes. Though there is a bit of momentum for her in this role.

RYAN: Please. Marion Cotillard was robbed!

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

“No Country for Old Men”

JAVIER BARDEM, JOSH BROLIN, GARRET DILLAHUNT, TESS HARPER, WOODY HARRELSON, TOMMY LEE JONES, KELLY MACDONALD

CAROLINE: And there’s another awards show, gone…

RYAN: The peers got this one right.

CAROLINE: And hello, Mr. Tom “All Business” Cruise.

RYAN: You know he’s up there thinking, “I wonder who in the audience has read my damned unauthorized biography.”

CAROLINE
: [laughs’ Totally. I’m glad hottie Josh Brolin got to do the talkin’ for the acceptance speech. But could he have been more obviously jealous of all the accolades that Javier Bardem is getting?

RYAN: Seriously! Here’s hoping we get to see a broadcast of the Oscars next month!

CAROLINE: Amen. Fingers crossed.
