LITTLE CHILDREN

RYAN: We just saw “American Beauty – 2006.”
CAROLINE: (laughs)
RYAN: In the form of Todd Field’s outstanding film, “Little Children.”
CAROLINE: Though I might have nightmares.
RYAN: It did have some very dark themes and imagery; but, it was abba-solutely exquisite.
CAROLINE: Yeah, it was really well-done. And it’s based on a very good book that everyone should read by Tom Perrotta who also co-wrote the screenplay, thank you.
RYAN: And we need to give a shout out to PW.
CAROLINE: That would be Patrick Wilson. He is gooorgeous.
RYAN: And you better listen up because this it the first and last time you’ll ever hear me say this: I wish that man wasn’t straight. He’s so hot.
CAROLINE: I feel like I’ve heard you say that about other people too.
RYAN: Really?!?!
CAROLINE: Yeah.
RYAN: Well, then. It ends with Patrick Wilson.
CAROLINE: I don’t know if he specially worked out for this film or if he just has a phenomenal body. But it’s really quite something.
RYAN: And another cast member in the movie, who normally has a rockin’ bod, but doesn’t this time… is one of my favorite actresses – Jennifer Connelly who is the new Lara Flynn Boyle.
CAROLINE: She’s quite thin. And it’s a little disturbing; although, she does look good in this. She has a strong brow… which is nothing new.
RYAN: This cast was unbelievable. It just goes to show you how good a movie can be when everything is just right.
CAROLINE: There’s a pedophile in the movie and he is just so brilliantly cast. He couldn’t be creepier and yet at the same time, tragic and pitiful. You almost feel sorry for him, even though he’s inherently a dirty bird.
RYAN: Right. And the leading ladies were so strong. Their non-verbal acting was brilliant. They could make you jump out of your seat with just a stare. I think Kate will be nominated.
CAROLINE: Some of the shooting in this movie is really great too.
RYAN: It really is. The blocking and set-ups were incredible. But a special note is the narrator.
CAROLINE: That was a surprise.
RYAN: And it was almost storybookish.
CAROLINE: …meets PBS documentary.
RYAN: And I really enjoyed it. It really adds to the mis-en-scene of the film. There’s something about this film that has the same feeling and quality as “American Beauty” and “Crash.” It’s that caliber of film.
CAROLINE: I suppose so. And let’s not forget it’s from the same director who brought us “In the Bedroom,” which did so well with Oscar nominations back in 2002. Perhaps “Little Children” will be another contender.

RYAN: What’s your bottom line, Caroline?
CAROLINE: Well, Ryan, I really liked this movie; although, I have to say it was very disturbing to me on some levels and it made me uncomfortable. And I don’t know if this is a movie for everyone.
RYAN: I think it’s for anyone who appreciates genius filmmaking.
CAROLINE: Fair enough. But not everyone wants to see the disturbing things that happen in this movie.
RYAN: It’s true. My grandmother wouldn’t enjoy this. But any of our contemporaries would dig it. It’s entertaining, intense drama.
CAROLINE: And brilliant acting… for the fifth time.
RYAN: Amen.
