LAKEVIEW TERRACE

CAROLINE: “Lakeview Terrace” is a provocative new film starring one your favorite actors, Patrick Wilson, one of our mutual favorites, Kerry Washington and one very menacing Samuel L. Jackson.

RYAN: It covers the very controversial topic of racism, including an interracial relationship between Patrick and Kerry W. and their racist neighbor, Samuel L.J. And the circumstances that arise out of it are pretty intriguing.

CAROLINE: Not many movies deal with this topic, though obviously “Crash” was famous for it. All of the issues in this movie are compounded by the fact that Samuel L.’s character is a cop; it ups the ante for everything. I spent the entire movie so nervous for what was about to happen; and as it turns out, rightfully so.

RYAN: I was on pins and needles for the whole movie. I’m sure the people sitting next to me were annoyed because I kept jumping in my seat. And aside from the racism theme, anyone who has had a bad neighbor or roommate who made their lives really uncomfortable can totally relate to this. It goes to such an extreme level and it’s so entertaining.

CAROLINE: I found myself hating Samuel L. Jackson so much, but I was so impressed by how intimidating he was. Watching this movie, you keep thinking Patrick Wilson should be fighting back more, but then you put yourself in his position and realize you might not be able to either because Sam Jackson’s character is so evil. And he’s menacing in an emotional and intellectual way, which is almost more difficult to handle.

RYAN: He totally plays with Patrick Wilson’s mind, and he’s so hateful that he’s almost one of the greatest screen villains ever. Almost like Kathy Bates in “Misery.” He really nails it. I loved the suspense, and it’s just a really well written and directed movie.

CAROLINE: I won’t give anything away, but it actually went a lot further than I thought it would at the end. But at the same time, it never felt too unrealistic. I believed the way it escalated could actually happen in real life. You hear horror stories all the time about road rage or antagonistic neighbors, and this is one of those stories where things get completely out of hand. Even though it’s entertaining, well acted and fun to watch, it’s also incredibly nerve-wracking.

RYAN: Totally. I almost had to look away at times. Bottom line?

CAROLINE: I really liked this movie. I would definitely recommend it to someone who’s in the mood for a drama. You just have to be prepared for this topic because it’s very heavy. You’re not going to be giggling. The way Sam Jackson preys on them, and finds their weaknesses and digs in is so shocking and hard to watch. You’re so angry on behalf of Kerry and Patrick W. that you can hardly stand it.

RYAN: This movie is produced by Will Smith by the by. I loved it and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who likes intense movies. You’ll be on the edge of your seat. The way the plot unfolds is so well done that you’re just waiting for the next moment to see what’ll happen. It’s the kind of entertainment that you want when you go to the movies, and you should definitely see it on the big screen.

CAROLINE: It’ll definitely get at your gut.

Thanks For Viewing The LAKEVIEW TERRACE
