Killing Them Softly Review
RYAN: Killing Them Softly is the new movie starring Brad Pitt and it’s kind of flying in under the radar this season. He’s a big star and he hasn’t been in a big role in a while and this movie is hitting during awards season but not garnering much buzz.
CAROLINE: Well I didn’t see it. Do you deem it buzz-worthy?
RYAN: No. It’s not really that kind of movie, which is why I think it’s strange it’s coming out this week. I enjoyed it though. It’s gritty, intense and kinda cray cray.
CAROLINE: It just looks like a total boy movie.
RYAN: OMG it’s such a boy movie. There are even only two women in it, one of whom has maybe two lines. But still, the guys are good.
CAROLINE: How hot is Brad in this?
RYAN: Mildly. It’s not a sexy role, per se, and he doesn’t really have any speeches or moments, which is why it’s not awards-worthy.
CAROLINE: How’s Ray Liotta?
RYAN: He’s very good in this. It’s one of his best performances. He’s very natural and I felt for his character. By the way, this movie is very violent – fights, blood, some vomiting, etc…
CAROLINE: None of that interests me very much.
RYAN: It’s a story about criminals and a different kind of economic crash, if you will. They’re all sort of despicable characters and you kind of watch to just see who wins in the end but you’re not really rooting for any of them cause they’re all bad guys, technically.
CAROLINE: It’s a movie about bad people.
RYAN: Yeah you know, it’s a mob movie… shady stuff goin down but it’s dramatic and I was really into seeing how it all played out. And it’s the perfect length, just about 90 minutes.
CAROLINE: Well that’s always a good thing.
RYAN: I can’t fully recommend this in the theater since I’d rather you get out to see the movies that are gonna be getting all the awards attention over the next few weeks. But I enjoyed this movie. So let’s call it a rental.
