Iron Man 3 Review

RYAN: I loved Iron Mans 1 and 2 and this is more of the same.  There’s such a sarcasm, brilliance and humor to this superhero; partly due to the genius of Robert Downey Jr., but also to the uniqueness of this franchise and I loved it.

KIM: It was so fabulous. I loved it even more than the second one. There was more action.  The big effects, action scenes were flawless and RDJ is brilliant.

CHUCK: I also like this better than the second one.  The action scenes are the best out of the franchise and one in particular worked on my fear of heights to the point it freaked me out.  It was unbelievable.

RYAN: One of the things I like best about a good action film is when the action is truly original, unlike anything you’ve seen before, and this movie definitely has a couple of those moments.  So cool!  I love how he calls the suit onto him.

CHUCK: They didn’t rest on their laurels in this one.  There was new stuff.  It was fresh.  Although they reference the previous movies and The Avengers, you don’t need to have seen them.  You can get just as much enjoyment out of this one regardless.

RYAN: RDJ looks great.  The cast is so good because at this point you care about these characters and know them: Jon Favreau, Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow.

CHUCK: Don was fantastic.  He’s able to go head to head with Robert Downey as far as presence on screen.

RYAN: Guy Pearce has a weird attractiveness but plays the oily bad guy so well.  By the way, Paul Bettany is the voice of Jarvis but he sounds so much like Jude Law!

KIM: Totally! I thought it was Jude Law too.

RYAN: But can we talk about Ben Kingsley?

KIM: OMG.  He’s really amazing.  I really liked him in this role.

RYAN: He’s always good and he shows great versatility in this role, once again.

CHUCK: He’s such a great character actor.  He delves into every role.

RYAN: And Gwynnie has been very vocal about this being the last Iron Man and of course we know that RDJ is signed on to reprise the role of Tony Stark in The Avengers sequel.  But this does feel like a finale to the trilogy in the event this is the end.

KIM: If they are indeed going out with this film, this is a great finale to have.  This one goes out with a bang.

RYAN: LBH, if they do pony up with the right amount of money, there can always be more.

CHUCK: It ends nicely but you’re right, Disney could always find the money for another one.

KIM: Regardless of whether this is the last one or not, we’ll be seeing Iron Man again.

RYAN: The plot is interesting and timely with terrorism and involving the government.  I always like seeing a President and there are a lot of surprises in the story.

CHUCK: I was actually shocked by Rebecca Hall as the other female character.

RYAN: I love her.  She was in Vicky Christina Barcelona and also The Town, among others.

KIM: She did look so familiar.  And it’s William Sadler as the president.  I loved him for TV’s Wonderfalls.

RYAN: We have to mention that the 3D was completely mediocre.  It’s one that was not made in 3D but rather converted to it after filming and this is proof once again that it’s never worth doing it.  When you compare the 3D in this movie to that in Oz the Great and Powerful, which was shot in 3D, it just doesn’t hold up.

KIM:  I agree.  You couldn’t really notice it.
CHUCK: This didn’t need to be in 3D.

RYAN: I only ever noticed it in this movie when, like, two people were talking.  You can’t even tell it’s 3D in the action scenes so what’s the point?!  Save the money and see it in 2D.

CHUCK: I really liked the little boy in this.  He’s a great actor and the banter between him and RDJ was priceless.

RYAN: Totally.  It’s one of the most humorous superhero films, almost like a fairy tale on the romantic side between Tony and Pepper.  The story is compete and super enjoyable.  And as is standard with Marvel superhero movies, there’s an additional scene after the credits, so stick around for it.

Not that I had any doubts that this would be awesome going in, but it exceeded expectations. Probably my fourth favorite comic book film (behind The Dark Knight, The Avengers, and first Iron Man). Even before seeing it, I bought tickets to see it again Saturday night and I honestly can not wait to view it again. I heard it's just as good if not better the second time. 🙂
