INCEPTION
CAROLINE: I feel very lucky to have seen an advanced screening of the much anticipated new movie, Inception, from The Dark Knight director, Christopher Nolan.
RYAN: You should, and I’m beyond jealous. I’m so bummed to have missed this screening. But you know I’ll be seeing the movie this weekend. Start talking… but don’t give away too much!
CAROLINE: Honey, I would never. I think by now we all know it’s a movie about people who invade your dreams and try to steal secrets. And the cast is great – Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page, Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy.
RYAN: I have so many questions I don’t even know where to begin.
CAROLINE: Well, I’ll start off by saying this movie is crazy. That’s all I kept thinking as I watched it.
CAROLINE: Definitely. But also just crazy to watch! It’s so sick and surreal. The dream world vs. reality is so intense. It’ll make your head spin. But it’s all very cool.
RYAN: The effects look just bananas in the trailer with the buildings folding over each other and the scene with Ellen Page and Leonardo in the café where plates and stuff are crashing all around them.
CAROLINE: Exactly. It’s so cool to see stuff acted out on the big screen that you would normally only see in a dream. The movie’s a little hard to follow for sure. And that wasn’t helped by the fact that Ken Watanabe can barely speak English and he’s in the pivotal first few scenes.
RYAN: So unacceptable!
CAROLINE: Seriously. I was like, “Am I going to miss a major plot point because I can’t understand what this guy is saying?” Not cool. But I was able to follow along pretty well. It’s the kind of movie where you have to pay close attention and just accept the fact that you’re probably not going to get it all.
RYAN: How was the acting? I’m lukewarm on Juno.
CAROLINE: Me too, because she’s so awkward and unfeminine. She walks like a dude, and she almost looks too young for the role. But her acting is fab. She’s really great. Everyone is, though I think I preferred Leo in Shutter Island earlier this year. He’s good, as always, but it’s not my favorite role of his.
RYAN: I kind of don’t want to know any more about it.
CAROLINE: I’m not revealing anything, don’t worry. I wouldn’t say there’s a major twist or anything, it’s just an very interesting movie with multiple layers. And it’ll always keep you guessing. My husband actually said it’s in his top 10 of all time.
RYAN: Of all time!?! It left quite an impression on him. You didn’t say anything about Marion Cotillard, one of today’s best actresses but I’m hoping that’s just because you don’t want to give anything away. I’m dying to see this.
— BOTTOM LINE —
CAROLINE: This is the movie to see this summer. It’s not to be missed. It’s totally mind-blowing and has some crazy special effects. Christopher Nolan knows what’s doing, people. It’s expertly made and will get many Oscar nominations. Go see it!
