Hyde Park on Hudson Review
RYAN: Move over Lincoln, there’s another president at the movies and it’s FDR, brought to you by one Bill Murray.
CAROLINE: How was this one?
RYAN: It’s just so-so. It felt like a big budget, made for TV movie.
CAROLINE: That’s not great. Laura Linney costars. How was she?
RYAN: She’s always good and Bill was actually quite good in a serious role but I think I just prefer him in comedy, LBH.
CAROLINE: Right.
RYAN: The best things about this film are the costumes and set design but it’s just very underwhelming. There’s no major drama. It’s about the first time the king and queen of England visited America in 1939 and, well, nothing really happens. It’s incredibly uncinematic.
CAROLINE: That’s a shame for a period piece. Isn’t there something going on between him and Laura?
RYAN: Well, yes. According to this film, based on true events, the president is having an affair with his cousin.
RYAN: They’re, like, fifth cousins. It just doesn’t matter. And it’s not like he was in a loving marriage, if you know what I mean.
CAROLINE: I don’t, but whatever.
RYAN: It might sound juicy but it’s not. This movie could barely hold my interest. I never really got into it.
CAROLINE: That’s too bad. Seems like it’s not really worth it. Maybe a rental?
RYAN: I guess, if you’re a history buff, but I don’t really recommend it. There are too many other awesome movies to see right now.
