HOSTEL: PART II
RYAN: This review is a little long in the tooth, because this film came out a while back. But I finally got off my lazy bones and saw “Hostel: Part II.”
CAROLINE: And I’m so glad you took it upon yourself to see it without moi, because there was no way in hell I was going to see this movie. It’s way too gory for me.
RYAN: That being said, it’s actually not that gory. There are moments of serious gore, but only in about 5% of the film. The other 95% is brilliant narrative. I loved the story, and director Eli Roth did an amazing job.
CAROLINE: Wow. Who knew?
RYAN: The cinematography is amazing, the lighting is great. It’s such a well-made film and the story is so good that you can handle its moments of gore.
CAROLINE: But if it’s anything like the first “Hostel,” which I didn’t see but heard about, those gory moments are seriously gory. Just thinking about it gives me nightmares.
RYAN: Yeah, they’re pretty disgusting. But I loved the performances. I was especially interested in seeing how Bijou Phillips would do because I tend not to like her as a person. But she was really good in this. The show is stolen, however, by Heather Matarazzo, who is amazing. And we just had her on our radio show.
CAROLINE: We know and love her from “Welcome to the Dollhouse.”
RYAN: And “The Princess Diaries.”
CAROLINE: I didn’t see that.
RYAN: By the by, “Hostel: Part II” also features two stars from “Desperate Housewives.” Roger Bart, who played Bree’s psycho pharmacist and Richard Burgi, who plays Teri Hatcher’s ex-husband.
CAROLINE: That Richard Burgi is sexy.
RYAN: They were both excellent. Overall, it was a really good cast and if this movie is still in theaters in your area and you’re into this genre, do check it out. It’s one of the best films of this genre I’ve ever seen.
CAROLINE: Interesting to note that it’s been doing terribly at the box office.
RYAN: And I want to go on the record to say that’s sad, because it’s a great movie.
