Heartless: The Story of the Tin Man Review

RYAN: We’ve never before reviewed a short film on its own and I don’t think we’ll make a habit of it; however, I’ve just come across a newly completed short I fell madly in love with and just have to share it with everyone.

CAROLINE: What’s gotten you all worked up?

RYAN: It’s a film about the back story of the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz called Heartless: The Story of the Tin Man.

CAROLINE: This isn’t WeSeeOzMovies.com.

RYAN: [laughs’ I know! But momentum is a’building and there are loads of new Ozzy film projects coming down the pike. And this one’s available right now to watch online. And it looks as good, if not better, than some of the stuff we see come out of Hollywood and into wide release.

CAROLINE: That may be true. Who directed it?

RYAN: Some young’un named Brandon McCormick and he’s a visionary. He did me proud, staying true to L. Frank Baum’s original story for the character and the look of the movie is genius.

CAROLINE: Clearly you’re biased. You love Oz as much as Harry Potter.

RYAN: I do love Oz, but give me some credit. I’m reviewing this on its merits. Take a look. It’s degorgeous, and it’s Baum’s story, so obviously that works amazingly well. But here’s what let me down…

CAROLINE: Don’t hold back, honey.

RYAN: The acting is atrocious. The dude who plays the Tin Man is so stiff, no pun intended. His delivery just sucks. And the girl in it isn’t much better. The audio mix is all over the map and the timing is a little off in some of the editing.

CAROLINE: What else?

RYAN: I wish they would have used the Tin Man’s real name, Nick Chopper, at some point. I wonder why they didn’t; but it’s ok because the costumes, scenic design and even the score and credits are just art!

CAROLINE: You know I might have to make fun of you for a while for how you’re raving on and on about a random online film short.

RYAN: Whatever. The directory deserves to win some awards for it. It’s so beautiful. Check it out for yourself.

CAROLINE: I might.

I can agree with disliking the Woodsman's performance but i thought the Tin Man was neat.
