GET SMART

CAROLINE: After seeing “Get Smart,” I am now more in love with Steve Carell than I was yesterday.

RYAN: I didn’t think that was possible! Do you love him more than Clive Owen?

CAROLINE: It’s a different kind of love. But I am more and more convinced, every time I see Steve Carell onscreen, that he’s one of the greatest comic actors of our time.

RYAN: He really is. My favorite comedy of all time is his “40-Year-Old Virgin,” and this “Get Smart” made me laugh so hard. There are lines of his that I’m thinking about after the fact that are still making me laugh out loud. That is comedy, folks.

CAROLINE: And he’s good-looking to boot! One thing I didn’t realize about “Get Smart” is that it’s really an action movie. It’s got great comedy, but there’s almost just as much action as a big summer blockbuster too.

RYAN: I think that’s what makes it so good. If it were just a slapstick comedy, I might have been bored; but we love action films as well as comedies, and this one’s both.

CAROLINE: It reminded me a little bit of the “Naked Gun” movies because of the whole bumbling cop thing. I realize the original TV show predated “The Naked Gun,” but I’ve never seen an episode of it. Not my generation. Of course, some of the humor is a little dumb, but I seriously can’t even count the number of times I laughed out loud.

RYAN: I don’t think I’ve ever heard you laugh so much in a movie! There was one point where I was like, “Why am I not laughing as much?” but I was definitely enjoying it as much as you were. Anne Hathaway not only looks absolutely stunning, but it’s also a really different performance for her. I feel like she’s finally doing her first adult role. She’s coming into her own and she’s even acting in a different way; her voice is lower and a little sultrier. She’s kind of a Bond girl with heart.

CAROLINE: I’m not a huge fan of hers, but I liked her more in this movie than I usually do. I even enjoyed the romantical moments that she shares with Steve Carell, though I’m insanely jealous.

RYAN: They had great chemistry. It’s a well-written film, it’s not too long and it’s lots of fun.

CAROLINE: It’s a little longer than most comedies, but it’s an action film too so we didn’t mind. And it’s just hilarious. I don’t want to hype it too much, but I really loved it. And you know who else was surprisingly good? The Rock, now known as Dwayne Johnson.

RYAN: He was hot! I was so surprised. He’s dropped The Rock as his name since he’s now in full-on actor mode. He’s not in the movie that much though.

CAROLINE: There are some great cameos too, which we won’t give away because they’re a lot of fun when you see them. Bottom line?

RYAN: It’s a really funny movie. I loved the length, and the costumes are great. I guess I’m finding myself raving about it. But it really is excellent.

CAROLINE: I love Steve Carell, in case you didn’t know. This really is the perfect role for him. There were other actors who were going to play it in the past, and I’m so thrilled that they waited to make it with Steve. I would recommend it to everyone; it’s hilarious!

Thanks For Viewing The GET SMART

Get Smart looks okay over all though it seems like Steve Carell is veering toward an excess of slapstick humor
